Title says it all really. What's a quick way to make a new folder in Windows Explorer aside from mousing up to File then dragging down to New?

    Thanks for replying.

Net7, I would love to have a "new folder" option when right clicking. It would be especially useful to avoid having to be within the main folder I want the sub folder to be in. Unfortunately it doesn't appear when I right click. Do you have some kind of tweak that gave it to you?

PeteC, that only works if New Folder is the first instance of the letter F under File. :(

Interesting - I just snatched that off Google - and it worked for me.

right click on any blank place of your window and choose the 'new' option->then choose 'folder'

that's the most quick way in my mind of this except short-key peter mentioned

Yes, I get 'new folder' when right clicking within a folder. What I'm looking for is a way to right-click on another folder, one that I'm not inside already. Because I'm usually about to dispatch something there and it saves me leaving my current location and going to another folder, creating a new sub folder then going back to the place I started.

I know it's a topic that concerns many users, having googled the issue myself, and lots of people have the same problem as me - if your first item under "file" that starts with "f" is not New Folder, then the shortcut others have mentioned does not work.

I hoped there might be a tweak out there I hadn't heard about.

Having seen the method Dave posted for the first time I think it can be refined .....

The command as posted makes a new folder '1' with a subfolder 'New Folder'. This is a bind :)

If you modify the registry string to read ....

    CMD.EXE /C MD "%New Folder" %1

a single tier new folder is created called New Folder

Interesting results Pete. The 1 folder and New Folder as a sub didn't happen for me, but it's cool that you found another alternative for 'just in case'. Thanks! :D

It didn't happen to me either. When I used your script Pete, I got three subfolders created, with different names of course! One was named "New Folder," another was named "And" and the last was named "Settings." Interesting, what?

And yes, I'm sure I copied the script correctly, even did it twice for a check. Copy/pasted yours the first time and hand entered the second. Both worked the same way.

    Pete,

Further probing reveals that the anomoly I mentioned about creating three folders seems to only apply when I try to add a folder to an existing folder on my Desktop.

When I try adding a folder to any folder listed in the left pane of the split Explorer window, all goes well.

When I try the same on a folder listed in the right pane, a single new folder is created but not inside the intended folder - it goes into the parent folder.

This sounds like something MS would unleash in one of their systems. :D

I must admit to not trying out the shortcut on Desktop folders as I never use them :)
