    Hi,

I'm using a Broadband Router and Ethernet to connect to the internet and have no problem with web browsing, updating my anti-virus program, etc, But for some reason I am unable to collect email from any of my four POP3 accounts.

With each attempt to log into my email accounts I get the message... Server Response: '-ERR AVG POP3 Proxy Server: Cannot connect to the mail server!', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Socket Error: 288, Error Number: 0x800CCC90

Any idea what I need to do to correct this problem?

    Thanks, Alan

Start by disabling the mail scanner in AVG if you have it enabled.

If that works, re-enable it and set your firewall to allow it permission to function. Put your e-mail server name (same pop3 as listed in your client) into the trusted zones/sites.

If still no joy, check your pop and smtp settings and your ID and password in your mail client. As a last resort, call your ISP for the correct settings in all areas of your client.

Thanks for the advice. It worked! For some reason AVG seemed to be operating as a proxy server with POP3 on port 10110 and SMTP on port 10025. As well as following your suggestions I changed back to the normal port settings of 110 and 25 respectively.

    Regards, Alan
