I am on dialup (no choice) therefore downloads/uploads of e-mails with large attachments is inherently slow even at a 56K connection. I like to leave the computer while the e-mails down or up load and would like to have it automatically hang up after they finish.

Is there any feature/option in Thunderbird or an extension similar to OE's "hang up after send/receive" option.

I've looked through the TB knowledge base and help forum but can't see any reference to an option such as this.

Hi Westside, thanks for that link. Not quite what I want TB to do. I would like it to automatically, hang up/disconnect after sending/receiving an e-mail. Having TB close would be OK as well.

This script seems to only allow you to disconnect when manually shutting down TB.

OE's option to hang up after send/receive automatically hangs up but does not close the application. Just looking for a similar action for TB.

I looked around, and did not find anything. I have not had dialup since 1999, and my knowledge of it is very primitive. Unfortunately, while programs are designed with broadband in mind, there is plenty of dialup around.
If you have not tried mozillazine.org, I suggest that you sign up, and post there. The
    Thunderbird support
is available, although, I think that you may have to login to post. The site has such a variety of stuff, and so many postings that it is, almost too daunting to handle. Give it a shot.

Hi again, yes I have looked at mozillazine.org and the TB support forums and have found the question asked but no solutions. It looks like a feature that would have to be written into the TB coding.

As a work around I set the dial up connection to disconnect after a specified time, which it did, regardless whether or not TB was sending or receiving an e-mail. Not exactly the desired results. Seems it does not recognize that TB is actively online.

Not really a big problem, just one of those options you would "like to have ". Just have to remember to come back to the computer after a big send or receive and disconnect the dial up. One of the few things I miss from OE.

I can only hope we get a broadband connection (DSL) one day. It's available about 2Km down the road, but the telco doesn't feel the need to extend it any farther at the moment. $$$$$

    John,

Post your suggestion for this feature on the Thunderbird Features Forum. Since this feature is currently in IE, someone, maybe a developer, may pay attention to your thread...
