    Hi all,

I have a strange problem, my XP system is connected to a 16 port hub with static IP addressing, the other 2 boxes on the network is a Linux Samba file server and one 98SE machine. When my NIC is activated any application I load witch requires opening a file (Word, Corel, Notepad even..) takes ages to open, even if they are a local file. While its doing this, the network card is busy transferring and receiving data from the network.

Has this got something to do with master browsing? I have no idea what is going on. If I disable the NIC then she runs like a beauty...

Any ideas on this would rock.

    Domain or workgroup?

How are you connected to the internet (to decide which services can be switched off).

Either of the other PCs giving you problems?

    Is QoS turned on?

Have you run Network Monitor to see what data is being sent/received, where it is going, and what the packet contents is?

Might be worth putting a line in HOSTS for your PC Name so that name resolution isnt going outside for files that are local

Added entries for both of the other machines in the hosts file. Works like a champion now, thanks very much :)
