One of my email accounts is an msn based account (since 1999) that I access through Outlook Express as a standard POP3 account (not web based). From time to time I have experienced normal down server issues & etc., but now, I am no longer able to log in to this account (3-4 day problem). I have reset my user name and password and my mail servers are set correctly - (pop3.email.msn.com & smtp.email.msn.com). Although my ISP is no longer MSN, I have been paying $1.95 per month for at least the last 5 years to maintain this mail address with MSN (not a commonly known option).

Since I have a few POP3 accounts all dumping into Outlook Express after scanning and filtering done by MailWasher Pro V 5.3, I'm not really interested in converting this to a web based account (ie: hotmail or windows live).

Has anyone else just started experiencing this same problem or does anyone have any idea of a work around or different server addresses? Thanks in advance for any suggestions or comments.

    ;)

OK - Found a fix no thanks to Microsoft.

    1. On the Servers Tab

    a. Change the Incoming mail (POP3) and Outgoing mail (SMTP) settings
    to:

    1. Incoming mail FROM pop3.email.msn.com TO pop3.live.com

    2. Outgoing mail FROM smtp.email.msn.com TO smtp.live.com

    b. Uncheck the "Log on using Secure Password Authentication" box

    2. On the Advanced Tab

    a. Change the port number for Incoming Mail (POP3) from 110 to 995

    b. Check both the boxes that indicates "This server requires a
    secure
    connection (SSL) "

Under Incoming Mail Server/ account name: enter your entire email
    address:
xyz@msn.com, not only the user name.

    Yes sir, Pete

You may be correct, but I differentiate this as POP vs IMAP. The important thing is that I can once again get my msn mail delivered to Outlook Express after filtering it with MailWasher. My beef here comes from the fact that Microsoft initiated this change with no advance warning and left me in a lurch. What they wanted to do (I think) is have me convert to their live mail which is a browser based IMAP format. Fortunately, I found a fix no thanks to them and I must add that if there is a help link anywhere within Microsoft or MSN (remember this is an MSN subscription account), it takes a person much better than me to find it.

Now, have I converted to live mail? Even though the server designation looks this way, I'm really not sure. I sure didn't sign up for anything along those lines and was able to access my mail by making only the changes referenced above.

I'll gladly take any enlightenment that anyone wants to provide because I don't pretend to totally understand just what they did.

    ;)

Don't bank on it - I don't know my POP from my IMAP :D
