been reading alot on this board and seems this is a vexing problem. i downloaded the debugging tools to find the cause of my random restarts. I initially got this dump below, basically the same file each time. So I finally found a fix for the missing kernal symbols on this board.

More after the dump file- in the next post

VAL - MCi_STATUS register is valid
Indicates that the information contained within the IA32_MCi_STATUS
register is valid. When this flag is set, the processor follows the
rules given for the OVER flag in the IA32_MCi_STATUS register when
overwriting previously valid entries. The processor sets the VAL
flag and software is responsible for clearing it.

Indicates that the processor did not or was not able to correct the
error condition. When clear, this flag indicates that the processor
was able to correct the error condition.

    EN - Error Enabled
Indicates that the error was enabled by the associated EEj bit of the
    IA32_MCi_CTL register.

    PCC - Processor Context Corrupt

The question is does any of this make sense to anyone. I have the information but I still am not sure what it means.

Running XP SP2, AMD dual core 4400+ on an Abit AN8 Ultra MB (happens whether I run it stock or at 2310 MHz)

Hi and welcome to the BBS,

I knew I had seen the error _VAL_UC_EN_PCC_BUSCONNERR_30F before.
    http://www.windowsbbs.com/showthread.php?t=61002

It seems directly related to hardware.

You can run the memory diagnostics in my signature. Check the temperatures and voltages. Check all the fans are spinning freely and there is no buildup of dust in the heatsinks (don't remove the heatsink from over the processor).

Look at updating the BIOS as mentioned in that thread.

Some things I might do are to set the BIOS to setup defaults and look for a setting Quick POST or Quick Boot and set it to full POST.

Unfortunately, I can't see any positive outcomes in web searches.

    Matt

    Thanks

Well, I have removed memory, blown all the dust out of everything. Have speedfan running and temps are rarely about 40C usually more like 36 ( in a closed cabinet with exhaust fans galore) ran Memtest86 for several hours with no probelms, run Orthos for dual core stress, no problems. Checked voltages both software and multimeter. Also used PCwizard 2007 for benchmarking and testing. No major issues there either

Dunno. I'll check your dx tools and see

    thanks

Your BIOS is January 06, so I would suspect it is the original. I would upgrade it. Flashing the BIOS is not hard, you just need to follow the instructions carefully. Don't do the flash from within Windows (if it is offered), use the boot disk method.

The two notes I made about the Everest readout were that you have a lot of hardware (drives, PCI cards and you say a lot of fans), do you have a powerful, high quality power supply? 59*C for the GPU might not be high, but I would check that the graphics fan is working correctly. I might look for updated chipset drivers and then graphics drivers.

I would not hold very high hopes though.

It's the only bios avail. I checked it. 450W powersupply. Drivers for GPU are also current. As for hardware, 450W should handle 3 HDs, 2 DVD, TV Tuner, Fax, and video card. everything else is on board the MB.
