    Hi,

I recently installed an NEC USB 2.0 card into my spare PC. This card has a Windows 2000 driver for USB 2.0 but no XP driver. As I have SP2 installed and it supports USB 2.0 I decided to let XP install it's own driver when the new card was detected on start-up. This happened with no issues and Device Manager reveals that I have an Enhanced Controller (B1).

Nothing is mentioned specifically about USB 2.0 so does this mean that I have full USB 2.0 support or is there something else I need to do to get this?

    Thanks,
    Alan

It's probably working ok. Would be best to pop in a 2.0 flash drive if you have one...You'll get a message if the port is 1.0.

Have you visited Nec's web site for the XP driver?

Thanks for the suggestion. I've been too busy to get back on this until now but that will be my next job! When I first got the card (about 3 years ago at a trade computer show) I recall some information on a leaflet inside the box that said there was no XP driver, but claimed the supplied Win2000 driver would probably work okay. I did not like the "probably" part! WinXP had been on the market for some 2 years so I assumed it was a case of the manufacturer not making an XP driver available in the hope of getting you to go out and buy an up-to-date version of their USB card. Not unknown for this to happen!

Glad to hear it! :) It was the absence of the words "USB 2.0" that made me have some doubts about whether or not I had full USB support.

Thanks for the suggestion. I put in my USB 2.0 flash drive and there was no message about only having 1.1 support. But having said that the drive is 1.1 compatible. However the speed of the data transfers would suggest that the system is using USB 2.
