I have found this forum to be of invaluable service to me and thank everyone involved. Can someone explain how to set the device manager in 3COM's wireless 7250 to read and overwrite the old MAC addresses of wireless users. The previous log contains MAC addresses from January 2007. I was able to set up configuration to the degree where users are able to obtain a signal, but I am still learning how to use the device manager. I have been working on pulling statistics to count users on the network and have been unsuccessful yet.:(

I am assuming that this is just a fairly standard wireless router .
Just reset the router back to factory defaults .
You can do this manually with the reset switch or in the control panel.
The router will be set back to factory default settings ( make sure that you know the default password for the router)

amazing what you can find on the internet !

What are you using the MAC addresses for? Are you using this information to limit access to the wireless network? If so, resetting the router may mean you lose these settings.

Before you reset the router, it would be worth you describing what you are trying to do and why having old addresses is a problem.

    I agree.
Seems a bit odd or perhaps a complex setup that you are using old mac addresses as your main guide.

    BarbaraBanks,

It is always best to post replies to the forum rather than use private messages. I haven't logged in for a couple of days so have only just picked this up:

Sorry that doesn't make sense. If the log overwrites itself, I'd expect there to be limit to how far it goes back. So I don't understand what you mean by "It obviously hasn't ".

Have you tried contacting 3Com for support? This appears to be a problem specific you your wireless equipment rather than a generic problem.

I've had a look through the documentation for the 3Com 7250 and it is clear from that the "device manager" you refer to is specific to 3Com. There is some information on pages 24-25 of the product documentation, but I can't see if that will help you. Unless there is another forum user who uses the same wireless equipment, I am sure you best option is to contact 3Com. Their support is usually pretty good, especially if your organisation users their equipment a reasonable amount.

    from the manual:

    SYSTEM LOG
The System Log page allows you to set up a server to store event logs and to specify
how the access point obtains the date and time. When you are finished configuring
items on this page, click Apply

    • Emergency: system is unusable
    • Alert: action must be taken immediately
    • Critical: critical conditions
    • Error: error conditions
    • Warning: warning conditions
    • Notice: normal but significant condition
    • Informational: informational messages
    • Debug: debug-level messages

    STATUS
The Status pages display additional information about the access point status and
    station status.
    • AP Status—Click AP Status to view the access point system configuration and
    access point wireless configuration.
    • Stations Status—Click Stations Status to view the configurations of connected
stations. The Station Status page displays basic connection information for all
associated stations. Select “refresh” on you browser to see update station status.
Event Logs—Click Event Logs to display the activity log of the access point. The
event log resets to zero if the access point is reset. The log saves 128 events, then
overwrites the first event and continues.
