Hope someone can help. My User Profile has gone missing. I get a message that says Windows can't locate the local profile. I have successfully created a new one, but have lost addressbook, documents, pictures etc. I have followed directions from Microsoft Support to copy files to new User Profile, but the old one is nowhere to be found. Any ideas? Feel free to e-mail me. Thanks.

I too have a missing profile - after a System Restore , I get a message about can't find my profile so the default is loaded. A further earlier Restore has not helped. I cannot see any of my software ( but Add/Remove Prog's shows its still on the hard disc ) and I can't get to any of my files. I have tried to create a new profile hoping to find my old one and copy from it, but Windows Explorer just shows me empty folders for documents and music. I run XP Pro 64bit on the PC which is subject to the problem.
This message being done on my lap-top which is OK - but doesn't have my personal files on it.
I tried to create a new profile - but the default one does not even offer me Windows Explorer. However I got there via Help, created a new profile, and then went to the hidden files to copy the old ones.
Found three sets of folders with my name on ; not clear which if any was the real old one - "properties" says all three created today !
They ( all three ) have complex tree structures, of varying degrees of complexity . When I followed each tree down to "Favorites" (bookmarks) hoping to see which was the real old one , all folders were in fact empty - as were the My documents folders..
Have spotted that Control Panel/User Accounts shows two accounts , namely my named account ( as administrator) but with a red x against the name - also shows Guest Account which "is off" .
Presumably the red cross means disabled ? And if so , can I re-enable ? And how ?

Or somehow find the right files to copy ?

    Help , please !

    Missing link

Steve - sorry , I am rather messing things up, working on a small laptop I didn't see your message until after I had done some editing of my original message - yes I read through the original links, which is how I got to try to create a new profile and look to copy. But I did not know which ( or all) of the three sets to copy - and if they are just folder names , with no files - as at least some are - am I on the wrong track somewhere ?

    new thread ?

I have now got as far as a message headed < SD TrayApp.exe> that < The App has failed to start because rtl100.bpl was not found.Reinstalling may fix the problem>

I have used my XP disc but can't find that file on it. I don't want to do a complete re-instal ( of the whole OS) since I should lose my programs and data .

Can anyoine tell me where to find a copy of rtl100.bpl and how and where to intal it ?
