This has to be one of the silliest problems ever asked --

For some unknown reason the stylized blue "arrow" (Show hidden icons) that allows you to expand the System Tray in WinXP has disappeared and now a << shows up instead. Clicking on the "<<" works exactly the same but it doesn’t look at sexy!

Not a significant problem by any means but it's bugging me as to how, why and where the blue arrow icon went.

Any suggestions on how to get it back...?

    Try to reset it:
rt click Taskbar > select Properties
    Uncheck "group similar... "
    Uncheck "hide... "
    Apply.
    Then repeat & reverse.

  3. to hide this advert.

Appreciate the suggestion TonyT - which I followed (three times) but it didn't help fix this problem.

I also notice on the task bar that the "Start" icon does not have the green button backgrnd behind it - it is only "Start" on a square rectangle with a grey bkgrnd! It's like an old/basic version of Windows...

Setting the properties of the Start Menu to Classic or other makes no difference.

    Hoping for more ideas...

Sounds as though the XP theme has been modified, or maybe even changed to classic. Try resetting it via Display properties>Themes tab, and/or Appearance tab.

Thanks noahdfear - that did it.

For some reason (inadvertent click... I guess) it looks like the Theme got changed to "modified" and when I changed it back to "Windows XP" I got the better looking Start and Hide Icons in the Sys Tray icons.
