It seems that I am having a weird issue with my keyboard. whenever I hit either the "t" or the "y" keys, a 5 or a 6 gets put behind them. also when I hit the caps lock key, i get Mozilla's help menu. any ideas on what could be the issue?

Hit your FN key and then your NumLock key.

I've tried that and that didnt seem to make a difference. also another thing that is weird is that i can't hold down the backspace button to delete long strings...i have to tap it one letter at a time.

Try cleaning the keyboard for dust and worse
Turn it upside down , blow it or vacuum the spaces
Ensure that the keyboard is plugged in fully.
Sometimes it is just one rogue key stuck in the down position which will cause a number of seemingly unrelated problems

It is behaving like a stuck key. One should be able to find a replacement keyboard for about $60 or less but you may need some help to install it. its not a difficult task but I'm hard pressed to advise that you do this yourself unless you have a fairly decent mechanical apptitude.

Does plugging in an external keyboard make any difference?
