My friend just purchased a netgear g router from a flea market, it seems that the password has been changed from the default, is there a way to reset this since we do not know the password?

There is a recessed reset button on the back. Press and hold for 5 seconds to reset the router to factory defaults.

    Resetting Router

With the router powered on hold the reset button for approx 20 seconds.
After the lights stop flashing it should be set to factory defaults
You should be able to get the manual online and go from there.
I am often amazed at the high amperage expensive to make and ship power supplies that are often supplied with some routers.
For an average home user the power requirements for amperage are much less and you have a lot of leeway in terms of voltage and amperage.
It is interesting that if you check the voltage of many ac/dc adapters with a meter that in many ( if not most) cases the voltage is usually off of the stated claim on the adapter.
If you do not have the exact adapter if it somewhat close you should be ok.
Just don't put 30 volts in a 5 volt router.

An interesting trick that a Linksys tech recommended as a last resort.
After holding down the reset switch to reset pull out the ac adapter.
    Then plug in.
Has saved more than a few routers that I thought were toast.
