Doing a little research here and am not sure what I want to buy. I really need a new computer and have been happy with my Compaq 6000 XP, but realize that Vista is the 'new thing' going. I'm not a gamer. I'm not a 'gotta have all this music on my pc' person. Occasional music downloads. I don't need to do movies. I just want to play with my digital pics, surf the net, do email, and play board or card games online. I understand that Premium is probably what I need if I get Vista. Can you still even buy XP? Hubby found this deal at Gateway. What do you think about it?

Genuine Windows Vistaâ„¢ Home Premium (32-bit)2

    1024MB 667MHz Dual-Channel DDR2 SDRAM (2-512MB modules)
    250GB 7200rpm Serial ATA II/300 hard drive w/ 8MB cache & Raid 1 (2-250GB hard drives)3

    16x Double-Layer Multi-Format DVD±/R±RW/CD-R/RW recorder
Gateway® 19" Widescreen High Definition LCD Display

    $899.99

    Free 500GB Hard Drive Upgrade!
    From 250GB, on the DX430X.

I know that the final decision is mine, but I really need help deciding! My old PC's high squeeeeeeeeeel hum has driven to the crazy house! I did a post here last year asking about it and just didn't have the nerve to get inside and replace stuff. As for taking it to a puter doc, I figured it would probably cost too much to fix and would be better off just buying a new one since this is now 5 years old. Sooooooooo...any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

    :)

Sounds like a great deal. If you're in the market for a new computer (and it sounds like you are), I think you should go for it.

There is a good size learning curve with Vista but I'd go for it...Since you're so young, its not too late to teach some new things:eek:

    ~giggle..giggle~

So glad you noticed I was so young still. ;)

Since it looks like I have your approval, I guess we'll get it. Now to clean up the old one and make sure I have my list of things to put on the new one...

    THANKS!

    :)
