I am having problems with a pdf document that opens with Adobe Reader. In the past, I could open the document, type in the data in the various places on the form, then print it out. I couldn't save the the form without losing the data I had typed in, but that was OK. I would just print it out then scan it and save it that way. What this is is a form I submit for reimbursement out of my flexible spending account through my health insurance. I could print out the form, fill it out by hand, then scan it to have a copy for my records. I would prefer to fill it out on the computer instead, however, as it looks much neater that way. Like I said, I used to be able to do it that way. Now, when I put the cursor in the various places on the form where I want to type in data, the cursor is a hand symbol and doesn't let me type. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

It sounds like 'they' have altered the type of pdf used for the form - is your version of Reader up to date?

It was Adobe 7.0, I clicked to update and it went to, I believe, 7.09. Is that the latest version?

Well, still no success. I now have Adobe Reader 8.0 and Foxit Reader 2.0. When I open the document with either program, I still can't fill in the form on the computer. With Foxit the cursor is just this hand symbol. I click on the area of the form where I want to type, but am unable to type. With Adobe the cursor is a vertical line that doesn't let me type either.

    Any suggestions?

Have you tried saving it as a text document?

To enable "Typing" in Foxit, try the following ...
On top tool bar, click on Tools.
From drop down menu, position cursor on Commenting Tools.
From branch menu, select / click on Typewriter.
You should now have a vertical line cursor, which you can position anywhere in the document, click and begin to type. You also have font/pitch along with additional options. It takes a little time / practice to position the cursor symmetrically throughout the document.
