Windows Installer Service

    I accidentally posted this in the Windows 2000 forum, but I am actually running XP. I can't install anything without getting the "Windows Installer Service could not be accessed" message. This happens with Adobe, Java, as well as Office 2003, and the Utility for my network card. I have tried all methods in Microsoft KB articles 886630, 324516, 315346, as well as the java.com site for error 1722. I even tried the registry on the Kelly's tweaks site. I cannot get any of these to work...please help!

    I am getting exactly that message, but it doesn't have the "Error: -1601" at the beginning...I went to this site and none of those (previous installationattempts) are running, and the second link said the MSI is included with XP, so I didn't do anything there. Thank you for trying to help me figure this out!

    As a last resort try a Repair of XP
