I really liked the SessionSaver add-on in FF1.5, but unfortunately it doesn't work in FF2. Does anybody know if there is a similar add-on for FF2? I haven't found one yet, so I've actually, regretfully, gone back to the old FF. Bookmarking a whole row of tabs is all very nice, but I'd prefer an automatic saving of last open tabs, a different array each time according to what I'd been busy with before switching off or being switched off - as happens quite frequently in this nick of the woods. Electricity a little whimsical, especially week-ends.
    Thanks
    Roncy

    Roncy,

Saving the last session is a setting in Firefox 2.0.0.3 Options:

    Tools | Options | Main
In the Startup section: When Firefox starts field
Click on the pull down menu
Select: Show my windows and tabs from last time

There is no longer a need for an extension... :)

After reading that thread "about:blank" as homepage I had "blank page" set in my mind and forgot all about there being other options under "When Firefox opens.." Thanks for getting me out of my blinkered rut. It works! Not the rut, the option.
    Cheers

    Hi Roncy,

If you'd still prefer to start with a blank page, the Tab Mix Plus extension "includes a full-featured session manager with crash recovery that can save and restore combinations of opened tabs and windows ". If, as I do, you manage to crash FF now and then, the crash recovery feature can be very useful.

Sorry JSS3rd about the delay in answering. I'd considered the thread closed as Ramona's answer had solved my problem. And it's only by pure chance that I got back here.
I'll give Tab Mix Plus a try, though if I don't really need it, I've already got so many add-ons and extensions and all sorts of helpful little programs that are cluttering up my desktop, toolbars, whole system. Spring-cleaning time!?
    Thanks anyway
    Roncy

    Hi Roncy,

You were still online when I read your last post, but I wasn't able to respond before you logged off. Apparently you don't have "instant email notification" turned on ... if you'd like to be notified of responses to your posts:
Open your User Control Panel, which is accessible from the top of any page.

Under "Settings & Options" click on "Edit Options ".

In the "Messaging & Notification" section is a sub-section labeled "Default Thread Subscription Mode ", with a window where you can select how frequently, or if, you wish to be notified.

I know what you mean about clutter but, with a bit of thought and planning, it can largely be alleviated. For example, I save nothing to my Desktop, and have almost no icons there; nor do I use the Quick Launch bar. Instead, I use a highly customized Start menu.

As far as Firefox is concerned, I have 24 extensions currently installed. Some run in the background, some are accessed by pressing key combinations and, by customizing my toolbar (see screenshot), I have instant access to others.

    HTH.

    Hi JSS3rd,
I've followed your advice and have checked email notification so I will in future not miss anyone's reply.
As for clutter, my desktop is relatively clear, except for some folder shortcuts so I can download programs (and extensions) to my desktop, try them out immediately (if I so wish) or move them into one of those folders.
What bothers me most, in IE as well as in FF, is toolbars. I'll try them out, have them sit there and hardly ever use them, at least not on a daily basis. So I trim them, move them here, move them there but they still clutter the screen. It's not so bad on a big monitor, but even then, do I really need them? The answer is, no,I don't. But then again, do I need all those programmes I try out and leave sitting sitting around idly, just in case they'll come in handy one day? Isn't it awful being a compulsive tryer outer. But at the same time, what fun!
I liked your customized toolbar and I'll try something similar, well, different but in that vein. Thanks
    Roncy

    Hi Roncy,

Rather than download to the Desktop, I use a designated Downloads folder that's not on my C: drive, which is where the Desktop folder is located: (C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Desktop\).

I'm an inveterate "tryer-outer ", myself. I can't begin to tell you how many programs and utilities I've downloaded over the years, and I've probably deleted as many as I've kept (and I've kept plenty). I'm a firm believer in "I'd rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it ".

Some users swear by toolbars and sidebars, but to me, they're a nuisance, and I don't use them any more than necessary. In part, because most of the time I can't remember what the icons represent. Besides, everything on any given toolbar is almost always available from the program's menus.

The FF toolbar (and TB's) is an exception to my "get rid of toolbars" policy because it's so easily customized, and I use every icon I have on mine frequently, if not daily.

FWIW, these are the extensions I'm currently using with FF:
