Running Vista Ultimate on partitioned drive, along with XP Home which was the orig install, Dell machine. 1.25 GIG. MailWasherPro running.

Windows mail has almost suddenly begun to drag enormously. I get it to open, then it gets to 'Not Responding' pretty quickly. Takes 3-4 minutes before I'm able to do anything and even then, once I click on a course of action, its another 3-4 minutes.

I thought it was ESET av, as I had installed it about the same time this slowdown began. So first I disabled email scanning, that didn't work. Then I uninstalled it, restarted, same problem. So then I tried not having MWP running and it almost seemed to work, but it still drags quite a bit.

I've Googled some, which is where I got the av hint, but nothing else has popped up. MWP forum @ Castle Cops didn't have anything either. At least I haven't found anything yet.

    Anyone have any ideas?

    Thanks

Well seeing as no one has offered any suggestions, figure I'll give an update.

Since the problem began and after searching and trying a couple of things I found and picked up at other forums where I posted this I installed Outlook 2007.

I figured maybe there was an outside chance this would solve the problem. But it didn't, it just gave me another problem.

Outlook would send messages but not receive them. You can see some of the tings suggested and done in this thread.

And then there is this thread. I can not find anything to suggest a fix, and have tried everything offered.

I'm still looking mostly because I don't use Vista for anything at this point other than to play with.

I don't see it ever being my primary machine for some time. XP will suit me for the foreseeable future.

Well, even tho this got 0 replies I did eventually find the problem, so I'll add it here.

    I stumbled across this @ vista64x tutorials

As it turns out there is a problem with 'restricted sites' and I had IE-Spy Ads installed, which added something over 23,000 entries. Used ZonedOut to remove all entries, rebooted and KA-POW.....Windows Mail is now responding as it should, nice and snappy.

I first removed all restricted sites to see if that worked and it did, then I installed the patch on that tut page.

If you have a Digg account, digg this one up:
