One way ping problem

    I am running two windows xp computers with service pack 2 & all the latest updates installed. I am trying to use the internet on both of them one is connected to the internet. I am trying to connect using two asus wireless cards. I can ping the slave machine from the master computer but not the otherway round. Both computers used to be able to connect to the internet Can anyone help me?

    Unless your using dialup get a router and you will have a lot more hair left on your head.

    What I do not understand is why is was working & has now stopped? How would a router help?

    Internet connection sharing is not very reliable as you have found. It can work fine, but can also stop working for no apparent reason.

    Using a router gets rid of this problem for two main reasons:

    First, it does not rely on the unreliable XP internet connection sharing system. Each PC connects to the router and therefore has its own network connection. The connection does not rely on first being able to connect to a second PC and then transfer communication through the sharing computer.

    Second it relies on tried and tested standard networking systems. Basically a router gives you the same internet connection system used by businesses all over the world.
