Just upgraded to TB 2.0. Does what it should - EXCEPT that the top-most selections, "FILE, EDIT, VIEW, GO, etc. act weird. Sometimes they work and sometimes not.

Usually (not always) they'll work first time, but cannot open them on subsequent tries -- a real pain!

Am I the only one with this symptom?

It won't help you to find out that I have had TB2.0 during its development. Of course, being a developing program, I used its own profile, although, the several accounts are almost duplicates of 1.5.0.10.
The symptoms which you mention are, often, associated with the use of a non standard Theme. So, if you used a Theme, other than what is presented to you, and, of course, used the same profile as used for 1.5.0.10, make changes in the Theme management.
Since 2.0pre, I have had no problem with it. I am still using 1.5.0.10 as default, but I will, soon change.

I'lll wait for 2.0.0.1 or whatever

    Westside,

Thanks for the response. I reinstalled 1.5.0.10 and all is back to normal.

Tried to remove my "walnut" theme but couldn't get to the Themes 'thingy' in vers. 2.0.

Oh, well, Let's hope the Moz (or Themes) people can straighten this out soon.;)

    Bob,
Themes are a pain, and they are not Mozilla's responsibility, but rather a third party developer. Before doing any updates, it mandatory to check if they addons or themes are compatible, and, usually, they are not. I can assure that TB2.0 is ok, but if you are hooked on that theme, you should stay with 1.5.0.10.
There is an outside chance that extentions like Mr Tech Local Install, or nightly Tester may help, by selecting to make all Themes and Addons compatible.
I need them to use some Addons, but I never found much satisfaction with Themes.
I remember using the Walnut theme with early Netscapes, and I also remeber how bad it was with updates of the Program. And, for some reason, mail is always affected, even when a browser is not. But I have seen Firefox Themes lacking some toolbar functions.

    Hi Bob,

I installed TB 2.0 a couple of hours ago, and have finally got it configured to my liking (more or less :) ).

I've found no problems with the menus (even using the Tiny Menu extension), but I use the default theme, so I suspect that Westside is right.

I did find something that doesn't work, and I've reported it in the TB forums. The main window has always had a gadget in the lower left corner to allow you to go offline (and back on ... it's a toggle) quickly and easily, but compose and reply windows didn't have it. An extension came to the rescue, though, adding the same gadget to those windows.

The 2.0 release added the gadget to the compose and reply windows, but it doesn't work, although the one in the main window does.

They've added one thing that I'd like to get rid of, though ... the new "Folders" bar at the top of the Folders pane (see first screenshot).

EDIT: Wonder of wonders! I had no sooner posted this than someone on the Mozilla TB forums had an answer which worked ... in the userChrome.css file in the TB user profile chrome folder, add

    #folderPaneHeader {
    display:none !important;
    }
exactly as shown. Poof! The "Folders" bar is now gone (see second screenshot).

Thanks Jim! I didn't like, or need, that extra toolbar.

    Hi Ramona,

What's really interesting (to me, at least) is that, from the time I posted my inquiry in the TB forum, to the time I posted the information in my initial EDIT here, less than 45 minutes elapsed. Would that all "problems" were solved that quickly and easily.

    Jim,

I hear that! I get little to no response on the Moz Forum unless I use a pseudonym.

Indeed, that all problems were solved that swiftly!

I had never noticed that Folder subtoolbar. Iit is useless, as I can see. Could it be of some use with Global settings. I don't like that either with multiple accounts.

    Greetings:
I don't see the "gadget" in compose and reply window in:

    Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-GB; rv:1.8.1.3) Gecko/20070326 Thunderbird/2.0.0.0 ID:2007032620.

"gadget "in Main widow has been there for some time (I think) -

Clean New Profile - default theme -
    Few extensions -My personal preferences.
    AboutConfig 0.6
    ChromEdit 0.1.1.1
    DictionarySearch 2.0.1
    MboxImport 0.5.8.2
    Nightly Tester Tools 1.2.1
    Password Exporter 1.0.6
    Preferential 0.8.1

Maybe I am missing it ?

    Capt ...

I believe I may have "mis-spoke" about an offline/online gadget in TB 2.0's composition/reply windows.

I think that what happened was, when I installed TB 2.0 and first ran it (using a copy of 1.5's profile folder), it picked up the "Add Offline to Compose Window" extension I'd been using with 1.5. (And, the extension no longer seems to be available.) In any event, a plain vanilla installation of TB 2.0 does not appear to have the offline/online gadget I spoke of in the compose/reply windows. My apologies for any confusion I may have caused.

In lives past I was a systems programmer on IBM MFT, MVT and VM systems and later a DP manager with IBM S/38 and AS/400 systems. The one absolutely most important thing I learned in all those years was to NOT be the tip if the spear with new software or PTF'S. Especially not when a companie's bottom line was at stake.

A word or two to the wise. The un-wise can ignore this lesson. :D

I, also, learned to never upgrade exclusively. Any upgrade is a different program. When the different program proves itself to be, at least, as good as the older one, I let go. Unless there was a gigantic bug in the previous one.

There is at least one bug, as far as I can tell. I sometimes find it necessary to start TB offline, and have always done it using the Profile Manager. However, it seems not to work properly in 2.0.0.0 ... when I open the PM and check "Work offline ", TB actually opens online.

    Can anyone else confirm this?

    Yep -
    FWIW....
Feature does not work correctly (IMHO) in Seamonkey 1.1.1 either - works
the same as in TB 2.0.0.0 -

I did find that the file:
    offlineStartup.js in TB 2.0.0.0 (size = 9,249b)
    is different than:
    offlineStartup.js in TB 1.5.0.10 (size = 8,739b) - this file seems to
    work as it should (IMHO)

    In Seamonkey 1.1.1 :
offlineStartup.js (size = 9,249b)is the same file as in TB 2.0.0.0

The differences in the files is WAY over my head.....
I have a thread going at:
