disk read error on gateway with xp-pro

    error this a.m., 'disk read error,press ctrl-alt-del to restart,goes to Gateway with F2 or F10 options, tried to boot from disc and states 'setup cannot continue, no hard drive detected', what's up with that? was running in XP-Pro

    Check the IDE cable to the hard drive. It may be loose or bad. This could also be a failing hard drive. I would test it with the manufacturers hard drive utility. You should be able to find out what brand hard drive you have at Gateway Support.

    maybe it's your disk.
    be sure the connection between the mainboard and harddisk is fine.
    then start with the cd-rom, and to see if the disk C if fine.
