Hi, After my mother board and processor got fried, I moved my hard drive to an external case, with the hopes of being able to retrieve all the info from the hard drive! I can access the drive but when ever i try to open any folders im told access denied. This could be as i had a log in password on the old pc, But is there anyway i can enter the password to gain access to my files on the external drive. Thanks for any help.

Hi Arie, Thanks for your help! But it did not work. The problem is that the hard drive is a seperate operating system from another machine (xp) now in a firewire external case. Could you tell me, Would it be possible to make the external drive a bootable second system on the main system and if so how? Thanks for any help!

    Hello Mark,

Depending on how new your system is, that is a BIOS option. Look there for boot options.

    Regards - Charles

    That doesn't make a difference.

However... if the files where encrypted, you'd not be able to access them without the recovery key.

Thanks Arie, I take it that the key would be my old log on pass? If so could you tell me where to enter it to gain access to the files? Thanks for your assistance!
