Update/Install KB929399 problems

    This is my first post on this forum so Hi to All. - My problem is since my last lot of automatic updates I have been having problems shutting down my computer -- everytime I go to shutdown I get in the "What do you want the computer to do" box - instead of shutdown I get "Install updates and Shutdown" -- it's the same update all the time -
    Update for Windows Media Format 11 SDK for Windows XP (KB929399)
    I checked in my update/download history in microsoft.com and sure enough that update was installed on the 11th April 2007 - I tried the following :-
    renaming the \Windows\System32\CatRoot2 folder to CatRoot2OLD.
    but the problem still persists - can anyone help me please

    skyliner - welcome to the Board :)

    Try uninstalling the update through Add/Remove Programs - you will need to check the 'Show Updates' box at the top of the window.

    Then turn off Automatic Updates and select 'Notify me but don't automatically download or install them'.

    When notified go for the custom install and decline KB929399 - it is not important unless the detail applies to you ....

    FIX: Subscription services cannot extract metering data when the services try to synchronize metering data on a client computer that is running the Windows Media Format 11 SDK

    You could try the manual download from the URL above. Select the right one :)
