    I am using Win98SE.
I have a DVD playerl which was giving me problems. I reinstalled the app. from my disk that came with "puter (HP).
It seemed that the re-install was successful(???).
I then clicked Start/Programs/Accessories/Entertainment/ ATI DVD Player.
I get the following on error message on screen window :Microsoft Visual C++Runtime Library:
    Runtime error
    Program: C:\Program files\ATI\ATIDVD Player\DVD Player.exe
    Abnormal Program Termination
    OK
What am I lacking? How do re-install the DVD Player without this error message.
    Any help gratefully accepted

Try updating both your video drivers and DVD player software.

    DVD

    I clicked Start/Programs/Accessories/system tools/system info
Then Tools, and on drop-down menu, clicked Syst. Config Utility
Then View and on drop-down menu, clicked Device Mgr.
Nothing on list for Video drivers or for DVD drivers.
So....where do I go from here?
I did mention earlier that I had re-installed the DVD player.
    Help....

Video cards are AKA grphics cards and you'll find it listed under Display Adapters in the Device Manager. Check the installed driver version and then check the manufacturers' website to make sure that you have the most recent version.

I didas U suggested. My display adapter is:
RAGE PRO TURBO AGP 2X (English)
When I clicked Properties button I get "device working properly "
I then went to mfr's site: www.ati.com and downloaded latest driver offered. Was told to uninstall previous one...which I did before installing new downloaded one. Then went to Start/Programs/Accessories/Entertainment/DVD, inserted a DVD in drive and GUESS WHAT? i got this message as described at beginning of my thread:

I get the following on error message on screen window :Microsoft Visual C++Runtime Library:
    Runtime error
    Program: C:\Program files\ATI\ATIDVD Player\DVD Player.exe
    Abnormal Program Termination
    OK
Sorry to be so "useless ". Now what???

Go Back to the ATI site and download the DVD software. Usually this is found under the Rage Pro All in Wonder and after the early versions (Pre - Direct X 7.0), this was a seperate download. You may also want to try the ATI UK site which has a very good set of older beta drivers that are not available on the North American ATI site.

Thanks for info. However, I first had to download Direct X 8.1 from MS, which I did. Then ATI Rage Pro All In One. So, these are installed.
I tried to play a DVD and got the same error message as in my original post.
So, it seems that I've accomplished nothing.
    Any other suggestions.

Yes, try the beta drivers I referenced - I had the same or a similar problem with the Rage Pro on a machine after upgrading DirectX drivers and I think this is the cause of your problem. My experience with the ATI reference drivers for this card was not good.

    Where is the UK site?
I went backto ATI site, couldn 't find a UK site.
I tried downloading a driver from "ATI supported" instead of the "ATI driver ". This download couldn't be installed. The ATI driver installed but as noted in previous post, didn't work.
What should I do to "start over "?
When I checked driver, before all this occurred, it said driver working properly.
    I am "at a loss" :(

I accessed the UK site as suggested. Downloaded and installed the appropriate driver.
I tried to play a DVD and got the same error message as posted in first post:
    Microsoft Visual C++Runtime Library:
    Runtime error
    Program: C:\Program files\ATI\ATIDVD Player\DVD Player.exe
    Abnormal Program Termination
    OK

    Need other approaches.
I need to remind U that I have an HP computer that comes with Recovery Disks (not original Win98CD). I used the disk to re-install the DVD Player and Driver.
Still get the same error message.
    What is "Visual C++Runtime Library?
Also, before I coud download the ATI driver, I had to download DirectX.
That is about all I can offer for background info
    Help, again

Personally, I have no other approach to offer. I believe the fix was spelled out for you. If you want to stick with the so-called "appropriate" drivers, then that is your choice. Not surprised to learn they didn't work for you either - End of discussion.
