Not the standard folders, but the Windows folders: My Music, My Videos, My Pictures, and the hard drive. See the picture.

    http://img260.imageshack.us/img260/1355/folderses9.jpg

Somehow, the folder template has been changed to Pictures. Which I obviously don't want as the template for one of the harddrives.

Also, the three Windows-created folders are messed up in terms of templates:

My Music: Documents template (should be one of the "music" templates)
My Pictures: Music template (should be one of the "picture" templates)
My Videos: Documents template (should be one of the "music" templates)

The icons are right (Music has the note, Pictures the image, Videos the film reel), but the templates are wrong, and because they are the Windows folders, I can't change the template by right-clicking -> properties -> customize.

I posted this problem long ago, and I searched, but it's been so long it's probably been purged. Any suggestions? And is there a way to prevent Windows from changing? I know you can edit an option in the registry to have Windows remember more folder settings, but can't remember what it is or where the value is located.

I am running Windows XP Media Center SP2.

See if this helps. Use caution and backup registry prior to suggested fixes.

The below pasted quote is from the above link. Please use the link since the cutNpaste below does not have aligned table for the "valid values" of "FolderTypes ".

This is your old post but it won't help. It has no replies and no update, from yourself, on the fix that finally worked for you. To bad, an archived fix sure would have helped.

Very helpful, thanks. I'll print those instructions for future reference.

I have to admit, I find it funny that the numbered subkeys don't give any indication as to what folder the key refers to. That's "user friendly" for you. :)

Wow, I couldn't find the thread, and I searched about five minutes for it, too. Not that it would have helped, but like I was thinking, I think that that problem was the reason I registered here, simply because the dates correspond

    Hi again,
    Just so I'm absolutely sure....
you are asking for help in restoring your "Common Tasks" task list for the folders, aren't you. I see your looking at the C:drive (in thumbnail view) but "common tasks" seems to think it's a music or picture folder and has offerd the tasks accordingly. In that case, my fix is appropriate. ( "Common Tasks" is the pane of listed tasks on the left of the folders)

But.... if your referring to the folder icons, windows folder for example, The icons are correct while or when your using a "thumbnail" view. Even on my computer, the windows icon is displayed with four bmp's on it. If I switch to "tile" or "icon" view I will get a vanilla folder.

I just wanted to make sure we were both addressing the same issue. :)

    -------------
As for finding your older post, that was easy. I just left clicked on your name, provided in the signature pane, (right side of post) and selected "find more posts by JPaterson000 ". All your archived posts, for windowsbbs, came right up and the link I provided was included in those.

Yes, I was referring to the Common Tasks. I just found it funny and odd that I would open the "My Pictures" folder and have the common tasks set to video. That's... not helpful in the least. :)

As for the post, d'oh. I used the "Search" button at the top, but never thought to click my own name. I tried normal and advanced. Knowing me, I probably misspelled my name when searching for posts from a user, hence the no returns. :(

    Well, hello again JPaterson000!

It's been a few day's. I was wondering what happened to ya'. Have you tried using "solution 1 ", since it is, by far, the easier between the two possible solutions. Did it work? Are you fixed?

As a side note, in my previous thread, where I stated "Common Tasks" list was on the right side, I meant my other right (dah!) which is the left side of screen. I'm sure you figured this out, but it has bothered me. By the time I realized my blooper, the option to edit my thread had expired so I take this opportunity to correct my error. There! Now I feel bettter.

Yep, solution one worked good. I even changed the bag size so Windows will remember more folder view settings, hoping that'll help this in the future.

I didn't, and don't, have the patience to attempt the second. Too lazy to run a program, check for changes, find the value and change it. Bah, too much... work.

But yeah, I knew what you meant with the common tasks. I just figured maybe you're a lefty, mouse on the left side, common tasks on the right. :)

Well great! I'm glad this problem is put to rest. I also have "common tasks" enabled, even though I rarely use it. I just like the options to be there should I decide to use it. I think it would aggravate the heck out of me if the tasks where mixed/messed up. Until next time....bye, and thanks for updating the post with the final outcome. :)
