The removal of Alexa and the additional step of repairing IE via the bolded runline, should fix this. I will be curiously awaiting for that update...

As a self-described beginner, I include this advice when working with install/uninstalls............

I hope when you are doing these installs/unistalls/reinstalls that you
*do not have anything running in background that may be interferring with the complete, uncorrupted or fouled up performance of said same. [That goes for virus programs as well].

*Cntl/alt/del should reflect "systray and explorer" all others should be closed or suspended, reboots [warm or cold or both] in between.

*Do not use bat or com files that may be deleting the \windows\temp folder during these reboots.

    Hi Again:

I finally got IE running. Alexa sent me an email with the uninstall info and it worked. I must have removed one file from the program when I ran AdAware.

    Thanks again everybody.

    Yeah!

So glad IE is functioning once again, and this can be put behind you. Thanks for the update.

What did Alexa offer that the link for the removal, I previously supplied, didn't provide? Just curious.... did this method of removal fail?

    Hi Goddez1:

Yes it was the same. The Keyword that I overlooked originally was save to "DeskTop ". Being a beginner I need to watch the wording properly.

    Thanks Again

    MSIE has a problem

Greeting, everyone. Just when I thought that all was well after running Ad-Aware and clearing all suspicious files, I get the error back. When I request a report and cleanup, I am advised (now) that: Thank you for your interest in WinUpdate. But it is only available in WIN2000/XP. The two suspicious files this time were:
    C:\WINDOWS\Cookies\mrwilson@servedby.advertising[1].txt AND
    C:\WINDOWS\Cookies\mrwilson@doubleclick[2].txt.
I delete each time, but they still come back. Is there an easy solution? (I am running WIN 98.) willieboye

willieboye - take a look at This Thread from the security/virus section of the bbs. I think some of the information there will help you out.

Pay particular attention to the post about adding a list of sites to your "restricted zone" then using ad-aware to clean up again.
