I run Windows XP on a Dell Pentium 4 computer. I have always been able to use system restore but it now tells me that it did not establish a system restore point regardless of which date I use. I checked my settings in System Properties and the setting is OK ( the turn off is NOT checked).

    This is a new problem

    Hello Jerry,

When you look at the Calendar, no Bold dates or Bold dates and the message?

And I have to ask, when did this start, and was it by chance after the MS updates available starting yesterday? Right now, those updates are a prime suspect in any problems.

    Regards - Charles

    system restore

The problem started a few months ago but I have not used the program since that time.I have a Bold setting for 4/4 that says "software distribution service 2.0 and the a Bold setting for 3/31 that says system check point. Neither of these works

    Hello Jerry,

First try re registering the .dll files

    regsvr32 jscript.dll
    regsvr32 vbscript.dll

Then, if the current RP's don't work, try the following:

Shut SR off: My Computer > Properties > System Restore tab > Check "Turn off System Restore on all drives ".

    Reboot.

Go back and re-enable SR - will create an initial restore point.

After re-establishing SR, a way to test the Restore function:

Take any executable file (extension .exe) , and burn it out and/or move it to the My Documents folder and delete it from it's original location. SR does not monitor files in My Documents folder regardless of file type.

Then restore to the initial restore point created by the system; the deleted executable should be back in it's original location. Afterwards, you can delete the copy in My Documents.

    Regards - Charles

    System restore

I disables the system restore and rebooted. Still does not work. It says "that the system was not restored'.

    You noted thate I should:

First try re registering the .dll files

    regsvr32 jscript.dll
    regsvr32 vbscript.dll
I am far from an expert and am not sure what is to be done to accomplish this

    Hi Jerry,

Start > run and type the following commands followed by the enter key after each one.

    regsvr32 jscript.dll
    regsvr32 vbscript.dll

Forgot to ask: are you using any Symantec 2006 - 2007 product?

If so, that's probably the problem.

    Regards - Charles
