Anyone wishing to get one of the older Hauppauge analogue TV cards (WinTV GO, WinTV GO FM, using the 878 or 881 chip) working with Vista can by downloading the 5.9g driver set from http://www.hauppauge.co.uk/pages/support/support_new_pci.html
    or http://www.hauppauge.com.sg/web-content/pages/support/vista.html

For some strange reason the main US Hauppauge site only has a Nov 06 beta Vista driver that does absolutely nothing. It also states that these older cards are not supported. Well they are on the UK or Singapore sites!

Vista told me it didn't have a driver for my Hauppage PVR-250 and asked for permission to go out and look for it. It found it, installed it, and it works just fine.

The software, unfortunately, doesn't work as well. But Media Center plays the TV anyway, so it's a moot point for me.

Unfortunately having Vista Business, I needed working application software from Hauppauge, as well as the drivers, which as you rightly point out are available from windows update.
Nero 7+ has its own cheap "media centre ". Problem is the audio is out of sync by around 10 seconds using the TV card.
Fat lot of good Nero's media centre functionality is!

I downloaded and installed the 5.9g drivers from the UK site. I have a WinTV-Go card. The turner and video work fine but the audio doen't work. It is not a hardware problem because WinTV2000 works fine in XP. Anyone else run into this problem? I should mention I'm not using the retail version of Vista but RC1.

I'm assuming that audio generally works on your install?
On my final Business version audio didn't work till I went to windows update for drivers for my onboard AC'97 sound.

If your still using RC1 then it's not worth spending too much time on fault finding as the release version of Vista is a long way from RC1 in terms of improvements and compatibility. But... on my install the volume slider in the Hauppauge application doesn't work. I have to use the Volume control in the taskbar or the physical volume control on the speakers. The mute button works in the application window though. In the audio properties area of the WinTV application make sure you have the correct input selected, although once again this doesn't make any difference on my install.

Thanks for your reply, Paul. Yeah, the drivers are the latest according to the Vista updater. Funny thing is, though I can't hear sound just watching the TV, when I record and play back, the sound is there. I'm guessing it might be a conflict between the WinTV2000 audio component and the mb audio chipset driver. And like you said, the problem may also be in the RC1 build and would not be present in the retail version. I'm waiting on that purchase, however. I understand there will be a Vista SP1 release in the second half of '07.
