Hello Schlotnik and welcome to the Board,

Re create them: click on My Computer and right click on a drive > Create Shortcut.

You'll get a message "Windows cannot create a shortcut here. Do you want the shortcut to be placed on the Desktop instead? "

    Regards - Charles

Hi Charles - Thank you very much, but it does not solve my problem. I CAN access them from "My Computer ", but I want them to look right. I was recently attacked by "W32.Horst-GV" Trojan. Maybe this is what caused them to change. Its darn irritating. Maybe you can suggest something else. I even tried to use a vb script utility called "driveiconchange" but it does nothing. You point it to the icon you want to use. It says it has done the change, but nothing happens in windows explorer.

Try the Repair icons facility in Tweakui XP.

I understand that. The issue is whether the new shortcuts created look as they should.

I also may be misunderstanding you - is it the icons in My Computer that you're talking about, or shortcuts you created on the Desktop?

I don't have My Computer on the Desktop - if I want to access a drive, I use shortcuts I created and put into the Quick launch tool bar.

    Yes, most likely.

If you're irrited enough by this, then give a repair of the installation a shot: http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm

My bad - leapt to a conclusion

    Try a sfc scan - http://www.helpwithwindows.com/WindowsXP/howto-24.html

Its silent while running. If any system files repaired, it will show in the Event Viewer:

Right click on My Computer, then Manage.
On the left you will see Event Viewer. Expand that (click on the plus sign).

    Regards - Charles

    Hi Schlotnik,

Well, I'm plumb out of ideas. The only suggestion I have is to use the how to link on repairing the OS that I posted earlier in this thread. That does have its consequences, you're going to have re install software/MS Updates. Up to you whether this problem merits the solution.

    Regards - Charles

    Thanks Charles
I think I will leave it for the moment as it does not impact on the performance of my pc. Maybe when i get a chance later i will do a complete reinstall.
    Thanks for your help anyway
    Regards
    Schlotnik
