My fiance's computer started blue screening a few times a week about a month ago. Here is the dump output. If anyone can tell what the problem is, I would be very grateful.

    Thanks!

    REFERENCE_BY_POINTER (18)
    Arguments:
Arg1: 82a7ed60, Object type of the object whose reference count is being lowered
Arg2: 89fb2a90, Object whose reference count is being lowered
    Arg3: 00000001, Reserved
    Arg4: 00000001, Reserved
The reference count of an object is illegal for the current state of the object.
Each time a driver uses a pointer to an object the driver calls a kernel routine
to increment the reference count of the object. When the driver is done with the
pointer the driver calls another kernel routine to decrement the reference count.
Drivers must match calls to the increment and decrement routines. This bugcheck
can occur because an object's reference count goes to zero while there are still
open handles to the object, in which case the fourth parameter indicates the number
of opened handles. It may also occur when the object?s reference count drops below zero
whether or not there are open handles to the object, and in that case the fourth parameter
contains the actual value of the pointer references count.

Here is an additional dump report. This is from the dump that is generated when the computer first blue screens. The first dump (posted above) was from a blue screen that happens when the computer restarts after the first blue screen.

    KERNEL_MODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED (8e)
This is a very common bugcheck. Usually the exception address pinpoints
the driver/function that caused the problem. Always note this address
as well as the link date of the driver/image that contains this address.
Some common problems are exception code 0x80000003. This means a hard
coded breakpoint or assertion was hit, but this system was booted
/NODEBUG. This is not supposed to happen as developers should never have
hardcoded breakpoints in retail code, but ...
If this happens, make sure a debugger gets connected, and the
system is booted /DEBUG. This will let us see why this breakpoint is
    happening.
    Arguments:
Arg1: c000001d, The exception code that was not handled
Arg2: 8186a3df, The address that the exception occurred at
    Arg3: 84c03e78, Trap Frame

While waiting for someone who knows a bit more about these errors - I'd suspect it's one (or more) of these 5 things (in no particular order):

    1) corruption of Windows
    2) hard drive drivers
    3) video drivers
    4) directx corruption
    5) malware

It's futile to try and fix an infected computer - so the first step would be to run another scanner to double check your current protection levels. Try this one (requires IE): http://safety.live.com It will give an ERROR when you try to launch the Full Service Scan - accept the dialog to use the beta scan of the LiveCare scanner and let it scan your system (I don't have a direct link to the beta). Once you're sure it's clean you can move on.

Next, I'd uninstall your video drivers, and reinstall the latest available WHQL certified version from the ATI website ( http://ati.amd.com/support/driver.html )

Next, I'd try updating your DirectX runtimes with this download: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...0c-5e44-4864-93cd-464ef59da050&DisplayLang=en

Then it's either the hard drive, or the Windows corruption issue - but I'll leave that until someone else has a look at your logs.
