Multiple IE windows - switching back and forth involuntarily

This was a hard topic to search for, and inevitably produced results about switching from IE 6 to my current IE 7, etc. Hopefully it hasn't been asked before, and if it has, my apologies and a link or search terms to find the answer would be most appreciated. Anyway...

The issue I am having with IE 7 (not IE 7 specific, happened with IE 6, too) is that I almost always have 2-5 windows open. When I am reading one, IE will sometimes take it upon itself to switch back to a prior window due to some activity there - page finishes downloading, for example. I don't want this to happen - I never want the browser window I am viewing to change to another one, regardless of what's going on in that other browser.

I suspect this may be in part to my extreme multi-tasking style of browsing and to my oldish computer - despite cable interent, pages don't load instantaneously, they take a few seconds, so while I call up one page, I may go back to another browser window to finish reading a sentence there - however, when doing so, i am often jerked away, back to the other page that has now loaded and is ready for my log on, password, etc. Can this behavior be prevented?

Thank you very much in advance.

    :)
