I received via an email, two web sites on which I can not hear any of the music. I've tried both Netscape 7.2 and FireFox with no luck. In Netscape it appears I have all the correct plug-ins installed. Can't figure FireFox out.

I don't think this PC with Vista is the problem? I use dial-up and think I've waited long enough for the site to fully load. One site would not work on my old PC which TOTALLY died over night.

Would it be improper for me to post the links here to see if anyone has a problem? Of course any help at all would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I depends on the content. Otherwise, there is no way that anyone can help.
Is this music which you should be able to listen as part of the websites, or some other way. Do the sites work in IE7?
As for figuring out plugins, type in the URL bar: about:plugins
I have WinXP, but I can tell you what type of plugin will work, or not.
So far, only some AOL music has not worked, and it is their fault, since they put a "sniffer" to accept of reject browsers or OS.

Am I the only person to think that this could be a godsend.

I hate websites that have background music. It makes my teeth grate the same way piped music in escalators does. :D :D

Here are the links:

http://www.members.shaw.ca/grandmafaiths2/boogie.htm
www.tropicalglen.com

And guess what? I just tried both sites using IE and I could hear music on both.

Now, how do I get it to work using Netscape and FireFox? It's bad enough working with the Vista issues but it seems everything else is going wrong. All my Title Bars have such small fonts that I can hardly see them. My eyes aren't that bad but will be if I can't figure out what all these little problems keep coming up.

Thanks for everyone's help.

I hear ya' Reggie, but I think that most newbies, and teen users, have background sound on their sites, because they can. I did it too until it started grating on my nerves. :D

vegaspat,

Nothing happens for me either in Firefox, or Netscape 7.2, at this link:
http://www.members.shaw.ca/grandmafaiths2/boogie.htm

Looking at the Page Source, I see a "BG" (background) code, which is IE only. Send the web author an email and ask that they make their page cross-browser accessible...

This link works in both Firefox, and Netscape 7.2:
http://www.tropicalglen.com/

Clear your Cache, then access the site and click on 195x, or whatever, and a player will open, and there will be a playlist.

Ramona,

I've been clearing the Cache regularly and just did it again. I do this under Preferences but was wondering if I need to do using the Windows Explorer or whatever Vista is calling it now. (In the Profiles folder.)

Clearing it within the browser should do it, but just to ensure that the Cache is gone, double check it in the Profiles folder.

Do you have Flash Player installed? That is what this page is using:
http://www.tropicalglen.com/

I am using Flash Player, Ver. 9,0,28,0, which can be downloaded here:
http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash

The Adobe - Macromedia Web Players page states that Ver. 9,0,28,0 is compatible with Windows Vista:

Yes, I do have Shockwave but not sure which version. I will check that out and update it if it's not the latest version.

Thanks so much.

I tested the first link with Firefox2.0.0.3, and, sure enough, no sound. Then I use the IE Tab addon , which allows one to use the IE engine in Firefox (pretty much like NS8 does).
And, sure enough it played. Then, I went back to the Firefox engine. And, I heard the music again, being played in Winamp, which I had stopped.
I tried again, and the music started playing, overriding what was playing in Winamp. So, it is possible to play the music, at least in Firefox2.0.0.3, using the internal player, and the IE engine or an external player (Winamp) using the Firefox engine. The file is a MIDI one, and Winamp is my default for MIDI files.
And, they said that it could not be done!

I don't think I have Winamp and haven't had it for years or is it a plug-in that I have hiding someplace?

So, if I find it or install it I should be able to hear those sites in FireFox? What about Netscape?

Running FF 2.0.0.3, both sites loaded, played.
tropicalglen.com loaded sites player - agonizing slow, but did load a playlist and started to play the songs.
grandmafaiths2/boogie.htm site was managed by MediaPlayerConnectivity 0.8.3 extension. With so many sites choosing WMP and FF have problems with most of them. A number of months ago I decided to let this extension managed theses types of streams. I honestly do not know which of its setting took control (when site loaded WMP was immediately loaded and started playing). I have WMP set in two areas / 8 settings, one of them being MIDI.

The MediaConnectivityPlayer plugin should do the job. Look at Dennis' post. The same extention should work in Netscape.

Note correction of name.

I heartily agree! If I want to listen to music while I'm on the computer, I'll turn on my stereo.

Reggie, do you really hear music on escalators? I used to hear Muzak in elevators but, thank goodness, that seems to have gone out of style.

FWIW, I didn't hear any music on either site, even using IE Tab. But, I've recently had sound problems, anyway, and I think it started with the update to Windows Media Player 11.

Should anyone care, I have WMP11, but the MIDI files have Winamp as default.
However, I agree that no sound is a godsend, unless you want it.

After a brute force removal of WMP11 in Safe Mode, and the deletion of nearly 400 references to it in the Registry, I can now hear music on the grandmafaith's site, using FF. On the tropicalglen site, it was necessary to use IE Tab in order to hear anything.

Jim,

WMPlayer is basically for Windows Vista, so that is most likely why you had problems with it...

Not according to Microsoft, Ramona. From their Windows Media site:
"Windows Media Player 11 for Windows XP offers great new ways to store and enjoy all your blah, blah, blah... "
