    Help,

We have just installed a new 2000 Professional workstation onto an NT 4 server (SP6). Although we have 50 licences available on the server of which only 38 are being used we keep getting the following message when we use either "My Network Places" or browse the network through "Explorer. "

" No more connectiones can be made to this remote computer at this time because there are altready as many connections as the computer can accept "

This is the only 2000 workstation all the others are Win 98. Even if I log off a number of users I still get this message with the 2000 w/s.

    Any ideas ????? Thanks

    Rory

Connections to the 2K PC? If so, the max is 10 I think for a workstation OS.

And when you said "We have just installed a new 2000 Professional workstation onto an NT 4 server ..." did you mean to a domain controlled by an NT4 PDC, a workgroup, or what?

What sort of licensing - "per server" or "per seat "?

    Thanks for the reply,

I should clarify ........ The NT4 server is a PDC and no one is connecting to the win 2k Pro. The win2kPro is trying to connect as a user on the NT4 PDC.

The Nt4 is a SBS (50 user) with 50 cals

What is odd is that I can connect the win2kpro if i use FIND Computer and enter either the IP address of the servers name. However if I try to use windows explorer or network connections near me I get the error message .....

Take a look at Q179483 Error Msg: No More Connections Can Be Made At This Time which seems to describe a situation like yours.

If that doesn't exactly fit, try the Microsoft Online help and put
"No more connections can be made at this remote computer " in for the searh and take a look at some of the other articles. Be sure to include the " marks so you will only see articles that have the exact same string as your error.

    Thanks again,

I had already seen that q article but it still does not address the problem.

It's probably one of 2000 pro's usual quirks that as yet are to be resolved ..........

    I'll keep looking

    Regards,

    Rory

More likely a problem with the PDC (or BDC if you got em) I think. Any interesting event log entries on it?

    Using WINS? DNS?

How is the 2K PC getting time updates? If it gets too far away from the time on the time server, it will do some seriously strange things. 2K likes a newer time synch than NT4 uses but you can force the 2K PC to behave like NT4 fairly easily. Just get a cmd window running and put in (where timeserver is whatever machine you are using for the purpose)

    net time /setsntp:timeserver
