    Hello,

Our domain consists of Windows 2003 Servers with Windows XP SP2 clients. Our school district has bought a license to watch streaming video from a particular vendor. The problem is that we have some bandwidth issues over our T1 line, so this service will not be very efficient. I was wondering if there was a way where I could set up a server that could download the streaming media, and be able to "multicast" it to the clients within our local network (we have 10/100 switches).

I went on Microsoft's website and found some info on Web Servers and Streaming Servers, but it did not give me any information on how to set it up.
    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/compare/webservvstreamserv.aspx

I am looking for recommendations and a step by step guide on how to do this.

    Please help!

    Randy

Who's data are you trying to stream? Is it your data and do you have it on your network already? or is it stuff from you-tube or other media services?

Hi, thank you for the quick reply. We have a license to download streaming media from The Discovery Channel website.

Basically, we are going to download it, and host it on one of our servers for the clients in our domain.

I was looking at the Windows Media Service, but I wasnt sure if that was the way to go.

What format is it in. There are tons of applications that you can use depending on format. VideoLan is a good FREE application that supports a lot of formats and can be setup to stream in multicast via IPv4 or IPv6

Avi is just the format and can be encoded in several different ways. It shouldn't be an issue, but you should check there format chart to be sure before you start setting things up.
