I do not know if this is possible or not but can I set up a single machine for two users at the same time. I understand that I will have to get another monitor\keyboard\mouse. Is there a good internet source for help with this or is not even possible. Is there a better way for two people to change\share data on a single computer at the same time?

    Thanks for any help

If you only have the one computer available then I can't think of any way to do what you want. There may be one but I don't have a clue.

If you have at least one other computer available, you can probably do some or all of what you want.

Speaking of which, can you describe what you want to do? Lots easier to give a good answer if we understand exactly what the situation is.

    Hi Newt
Thanks for your reply. At work me and my assistant work almost the same exact programs and need to share the same info(e-mails, files ect) at the same time. I am familar a little with networking. I set up our current office system(8 computers) with networking and shared(2-way satellite) internet connection. I am also familar with sharing files and printers which is pretty basic. There is just one computer in the office though that I would like to work on along with my assistant and be able to have the share the same information at the same time. Some of the programs that would get shared are Outlook 2000. That is the reason why I was wondering if you can have two users on one computer at the same time. I know this probably does not make sense or if it is even possible. Thanks for your patience.

I was thinking in terms of your using one of the remote control packages for the 2nd user so he/she could connect from another computer but basically be on the same computer.

Much closer to what you are asking than any sort of file sharing could be.

For instance, terminal services will allow a user at the PC console and another (more actually) connected to the computer with a screen that shows what he/she is doing on the computer. Just like being there sorta except that neither user will notice the other one.

Alternate idea is a remote control package like SMS, PCAnywhere, NetOp or others where both users see the same screen and move the same cursor/mouse pointer, etc. around. Only one can be working at a time but both can see what is happening.

Be aware that some programs like databases may give problems with two users at a time if they are single-user programs because they don't know how to lock a record when a user is in it.
