    Hi,

Every day or so I get a blue screen with the following messsage:

    ***STOP 0x000000f4 (0x00000003, 0x858971c8, 0x80604530)

Because of this I have had to reinstall Windows twice.

I have cleared out all unnessercary programs incase that might be causing the problem.

    Any ideas,

    Yours

You and I may be talking on different wave lengths here.

    You keep mentioning RESTORE.

I do not mean RESTORE. I mean a good old fashioned DOS boot and overtop re-install of Windows. This will more assure that there will be no inuse files that do not get overwritten. And any that may be missing will get added.
Over the years I have had no luck at reinstalling Windows ( any version ) when booting from anything other than good old fashioned FLOPPY from a power off state.

    PS.
I was getting bored so am gald that I could get into something.

Well hopefully my computer will stop you getting bored.

Yes I think we were talking on different wavelengths all down to my error, I haven't re-installed Windows all I have ever done is run a destructive system restore.

Did you boot from a power off state to do that ? Because if you did not there may well be inuse files ( in RAM ) that do not get overwritten properly.

?? To me the word Restore means to put back what used to be there. There well may be your problem too.

I am still leaning heavily on the fact that you need a good system REBUILD. not restore.

I am not quite sure what you mean as well. Do you mean a Windows ME system restore or are you using a manufacturer's "restore disk "?...like a HP or Gateway restore disk. Actually, which version of Windows are you using?

A stab...are you installing a good set of drivers after "restoring" Windows? If you are confident that you are avoiding installing software that might cause the problem, look at installing all the necessary drivers and/or going to the hardware manufacturer's website and finding driver updates for your hardware.

Look in Device Manager for any problems, although this does not mean a good set of drivers is installed for hardware without any problems listed.

Start with the chipset/motherboard drivers, then graphics, then say, soundcard and any network hardware drivers.

More thoughts ( questions ) on my part.

If that is the case it could mean problems also. IF you have made any changes and do not do a complete system restore. FROM A POWER OFF STATE.

mattman makes some good points also. And also he is correct about the need to check out/re-install drivers.

Thanks for all the suggestions, I will look at the drivers tonight and let you know, when I have had to run a system restore it has always been using the manufactures restore disk (Phillips Freevents).

The operating system is Windows ME.
