Go into Control Panel, then into Add/Remove Programs. Then select Microsoft Internet Explorer. A window will pop up, then select Repair Internet Explorer. You will not actually be removing it, this is one way to get to the repair function.
Or, you can go into Programs\Accessories\System Tools\System Information, click on Tools and then select Internet Explorer Repair Tool and get the same little window as mentioned above.

If the IE add a componet, repair, and restore previous IE option window only flashes on the screen and disappears, nothing was done. After selecting repair and then clicking on OK, you should have had another window pop up stating it was checking the IE files and a progress window running on the desktop, then a prompt to restart your computer.
If it is definitely not working, you will have to reinstall IE. Open Windows Explorer and go to the folder C:\Windows Update Setup Files and then run IeXsetup.exe, the X being your IE version number. Or from the CD you got it from.
Note: If you downloaded IE and did not use the option to download for setup later, you may need to be online for it to complete.
    Good luck!

revjohnson777--You should have a Favorites button on your menubar (second bar from the top of your screen), and may have a Favorites button on your Toolbar (next bar down). What happens if you try to access a Favorite from either those?

I ran the internet explorer repair--it completed--but I still have the saame problem--if i open an ie window by hitting the little blue e it will open a window taking me to my home page-from this point if i use the bar across the top to hit favorites the favorites menu opens to the left of the screen and when i select something from this favorites menu it will change to that favorites page-----but if i do not have this ie window already open on the screen and try to use favorites from the start bar on the bottom left then the window tries to open for a second and then just disappears--i don't know if im explaining it properly--signed, hating this **** thing

    re-install ie6

If a repair doesn't do the trick, you can try a reinstall: 1. Start the Registry Editor 2. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Active Setup \ Installed Components \ {89820200-ECBD-11cf-8B85-00AA005B4383} 3. right-click the IsInstalled value, and then click Modify 4. Change the value data, from 1 to 0 5. Close the registry editor 6. Download and install Internet Explorer 6. The above will let you reinstall the Internet Explorer 6 browser component.
To reinstall Outlook Express 6, change the IsInstalled value from the following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Active Setup \ Installed Components \ {44BBA840-CC51-11CF-AAFA-00AA00B6015C} Note: You need to be logged on as an administrator to be able to change these registry keys. :)
