Is there anyway to clean up your computer? I would love to just wipe out my computer and start over, but I have way too much stuff to do so...like 3 web sites and so on. But I've noticed when I go into folders that I don't know what they are they end up having nothing in them....but too afraid to delete them. Is there anyway to clean up you computer and get all the "junk" or empty folders out of it with out messing everything up?

    Thanks, Rhonda

The short answer is, "Don't go into folders that you don't know what they are. "

If your computer is working normally, leave things as they are. You can delete files from any temp folder but even then the space gained isn't all that important in this age of huge HD's.

If you insist on doing some cleaning, stick with the XP native tools and you'll be at low risk of doing any damage. You can right click on your HD icon in My Computer and select "Properties" and click the Cleanup button. It will inform you of any safe gains that you can make by opting to allow a cleanup to take place. Even then I advise against allowing the one option of "Compressing Old Files." Do not allow that but all others are fair game if you see that some meaningful space can be gained.

Ok, thanks....I was just thinking of when you've downloaded things and then unnstalled them....how some folders seem to be left over. Thought it might run a little better. But will leave them alone :)

    Thanks, Rhonda

That's the safest way. Empty folders will never hurt you but deleting a necessary folder, even though empty has a degree of risk.

    All the best.

    Computer Clean Up

    Be carefull.
First run spyware detection removal programs.
Go into your control panel> add remove programs and go down the list
If you are not sure then google the term
Then look around your document to remove stuff you don't want.
You might want to go into start > All programs >system tools > disk cleanup
Go into your c drive or whatever > program folder
Check out the folders one by one , google if you have to . and then carefully delete residual amounts of program files of programs that you have taken out at some time.
    lastly defrag
