Does anyone know if the Northern Telecoms Meridian system that works on a regular Bell line now, will work on the INTERNET digital lines offered by many INTERNET suppliers?

They don't seem to be able to answer that question for me. Thank you. loonychoons Lenny Chowns

Please Help if you can ???

Hey -- People any suggestions would be welcome! Maybe someone out there might know of a obscure Web Site or someone that I might contact for such Information.

I am en-broiled in a Bell Canada Telephone conflict. It all goes back to Months and Months ago when I started being billed for calls that were supposed to be coming to my Resort on my Toll Free 800 line. The discrepancies stand out like sore thumbs, They all come from the same exchange and add up to ridicules amounts of time , and therefore money {in one month 15 hours on 30 calls. That is more than the rest of North America combined !! } P.S. my Wife or I are the only ones answering that line and we Know that we NEVER got those messages? It would be imposable not to remember 938 min or over 15 hours from the same place Perth Ontario.

My phone supplier will not listen to reason the insist that I pay the complete charges or I might loose my service coverage.

I was looking for another type of phone service . As Bell Canada has a monopoly in my area on phone lines.

That is why I asked the question in my post just before this one.

I hope someone out there could help us in some way . Thanks loonychoons Leonard & Gail Chowns

Bell Telephone supposedly did an investigation and closed that investigation on March 7th they never told us that the investigation was over until we Phoned them again and again. We were then told they could find no problem as DID WE NOT KNOW THAT ALL CALL MADE ANYWHERE IN NORTH AMERICA CAN BE CHARGED TO OUR 800 PHONE NUMBER THEREFORE WE ARE LIBEL FOR THOSE CHARGES? Therefore we should read our contract so that we will know what our coverage is? WE GIVE UP !!!!!

    Hi Lenny,

This is more of a sympathy post than anything else and amy generate more looks at this thread - I know nothing about alternatives to 800 service.

Here in the states, there are Boards of Public Utilities that at least listen to complaints about monopoly providers - do you have an equivalent?

    Regards - Charles

    Thanks Charles,

I knew that I could count on one or more of my old faithfuls for support. So again thanks.

Charles it is not the 800 service that I an hoping to replace, It is the carrier of this line, Which is currently Bell ,that I am having problems with, In fact it is only the Physical Phone Lines that I am forced to obtain from Bell, That is until Primus or Rogers or Sprint can install phone lines, Which they all promise to do in the near future.

So my hands are not completely tied as I can still have Bell lines plus one of the other carriers that I have just mentioned. They can supply my local and long distance,on my Rented Bell Canada Lines, as well as my 800 toll free Number as long as we do not have to change our 800 phone # as it is already out there and well known and is also tied into our Advertising.

I was hoping to take advantage of the newly available Internet Phone Lines that come into my Resort with my High speed INTERNET connection as well as my Television Cable both analog and digital.

To do this I need to find out if the finished product phone line from this source is indistinguishable from an normal phone line and able to adapt to my internal communication equipment already in use?
This is the Question that I am having difficulty obtaining any Info about. Believe me I have looked everywhere that I could think.

Loonychoons Lenny P.S. To answer your question Bell Canada Seems to answer to no one. Hydro One formally Ontario Hydro runs their company just the same with little or no recourse By us the general public !!! Lenny

May want to contact Vonage (vonage.com).

Know you can keep your residential or business number "“ don’t know about 800 number so it’s a question for them.

It’ll work with any broadband connection which they do NOT provide so you still have to have either cable or dsl through someone.

Also it’s NOT digital but I’ve had zero problems with voice quality.
Digital - far as I know - will only be provided thru your cable provider- if they offer it.
Be aware though that if internet connection goes down "“ so does your phone line.
Has happened to me. Cable went down "“ started to pick up phone to report and went "“ duhhhhhh "“ Had to call on cell phone to report.

    To ephemarial, Good Idea!!

Vonage to date won't let me keep my own Phone numbers at least here in Ontario Canada. They had a chart and I checked both the U.S.A. and Canada.I did a search for all my current Phone Numbers & No Can Do "at least not now in Canada "

The supplier of my High Speed Internet and my Analog and Digital T.V. cable coverage can supply me a Same # Residential Phone line now ,but NOT BUSINESS lines though? I might take them up on it. I think that it is a Canadian Company by the name of COGECO.

$39.99 Canadian for the line all my call in North America and quite a large # of European Counties, As Long as I can call Scotland that's good. Also all the Bells and Whistles like call waiting and such.. Sound like a good deal?

P.S. That no phones when no cable !!Can really grab you!! My wife stated while watching Television, and the Hydro went out{ Oh, well I needed to catch up on my Ironing any way.} I watched as she found the Iron and wrinkled clothes then set up the Ironing board. I could hardly contain myself. When the Iron would not heat up and I chuckled I got whacked but good, I know ,I know, Yes I deserved it.!!!

Listen thanks for the Info after I obtain an INTERNET phone line I might experiment just a little, But mums the word. loonychoons

    Update on my Bell Problems.

I am still en-broiled in a Bell Canada Telephone conflict. It all goes back to last July when I started being billed for calls that were supposed to be coming to my Resort on my Toll Free 800 line. The discrepancies stand out like sore thumbs, They all come from the same exchange and add up to ridicules amounts of time , and therefore money {in one month 15 hours on 30 calls. It would be imposable not to remember 938 min or over 15 hours from the same place Perth Ontario.

My phone supplier will not listen to reason they insist that I pay the complete charges or I might loose my service coverage. They did inform us however that they will be adding an extra $8.00 per Month to my 800 toll free number as a surcharge,Why? It can not be for good service.

I was looking for another type of phone service . As Bell Canada has a monopoly in my area on phone lines.

That is why I asked the question in my post just before this one.

I hope someone out there could help us in some way . Thanks Leonard Chowns C.E.T.

Bell has now reopened that investigation. Also they will not give me any more Info. than was on the Bell Canada Statement. NPA 613 EXCH. 264 ORIG Location PERTH ONTARIO # CALLS 30 BILLED MIN. 938 And That's all there is on the statement. Only one phone line in from Bell ,two phones same line and are Bell units Nothing else.
From July of last summer until our last Bell Canada phone bill, these bogus charges have added up to 2,020 Min. or over 35 hours of time that we have been billed, but have not received the calls. A very odd thing happened one evening, Our Aunt from Waterloo had tried to phone her sister on our 800 line { That would be my Mother-in law who lives here at the Resort} and all she got for the next 6 hours was a busy signal or a taped message saying "please hang up and try your call again" in a panic thinking that our place had burnt down or something she called her Daughter who phoned us on our Private line. Barby asked who had been on our 800 line all that time? We said no-one when we picked up our 800 line we had a dial tone, while Barby had a busy signal at her end all at the very same time.

Bell Canada will supply the last four digits at a cost for the full 800 toll free line at Setup $5,000.00 and $250.00 per month??? forget that!!!!

I am now in the process of switching my Long Distance to "PRIMUS" not only can I count on them for no Bogus calls I am also only paying 3.5 Cent Canadian for all my long distance on my Fax my Residence and Business Lines. That's it ,no service charges No Long Distance calls then ,No Bill, Also complete complete monthly reports with Bar and Pie charts ,Times, durations and ,Complete recorded Phone #'s, both in and out. If Problems should arise.

The Phone just does not ring and we live here so it's monitored 24/7 loonychoons
