Hi All, New to this BBS, it looks great!
I am using xxcopy to retrieve some files across a VPN and windows firewall prevents xxcopy from accessing the XP PC. If I turn off windows firewall it works OK, but I am not sure what exception I need to put into the firewall as I would prefer to leave it on.

The XP PC is a standalone machine (different IP range to mine) accessed with an xxcopy cmd of \\PC-name ... etc Appreciate any suggestions.

    Regards...

    http://www.cites.uiuc.edu/vpn/firewallports.html

That link outlines the ports that are used. You'll have to wing it on setting them to open in your firewall since I don't have your setup. It seems fairly straightforward in the XP firewall though.

If you need more, post up in the Networking forum here and perhaps someone can go into details.

Another thing to look at is IP address that you are connecting to. If it is a private address (for example, starting 192.168 or 10.) then you should be able to set up a rule based on the IP address. Basically you need to allow file and print sharing for connections using that IP address.

    1. Go into the properties of the connection
    2. Select the Advanced tab and click on the Settings button in the Firewall section
    3. Go to the Exceptions tab
    4. Select "File and Print sharing "
    5. Click on the edit button
    6. Click on the change scope button
    7. Select Custom list and enter the IP addresses you want to allow there

    Fixed... thanks!

I followed reggieB's advice and added the IP addresses to the file and print sharing.

The two machines are both on different subnets (in the 192.168...) and as I run IPsec between them its reasonably secure.

    Thanks for the suggestions!

    Regards...
