Running Windows XP Media 2002 edition. Presently have Windows Media Player 10 installed. Downloaded and installed version 11. However, when i go to use it i get the following error msg. "To finish installingWindows Media Player, restart your computer and then log on as an administrtator or a member of the Administrators group ". Have since rolled back to version 10 in order to have Windows Media available. Has anyone else had a similar problem updatig to version 11. If so, how did you overcome the warning and install it successfully?

Your post does not answer the poster's question - all is not well - WMP 11 is not installed.

Were you logged on as Administrator when you tried the initial installation?

    Maybe this is relevant:

    From WMP 11 FAQ

    Q. Why doesn’t Windows Media Player 11 install on Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005?

    A. You might have difficulty installing Windows Media Player 11 for Windows XP on a computer running Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 if you have not installed the most recent Windows updates.

If you encounter problems installing Windows Media Player 11 for Windows XP on a computer running Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005, try installing the updates mentioned in the following Microsoft Knowledge Base articles:

    • Article 900325, "Update Rollup 2 for Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 "

    • Article 925766, "October 2006 Update Rollup for Windows XP Media Center Edition "

In addition, go to Windows Update and install any other recommended updates.

See also WMP 11 system requirements

    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/11/readme.aspx#Minimumsystemrequirements

That does not list Windows XP Media Edition 2002 at all.
