I can see the Vista PC in the XP PC network folder.but cannot access it. The LLTD responder is installed.
In the Vista PC, the XP PC appears in the Network Map but not in the network folder.

Further details are in the attachment.

    Would greatly appreciate some help.

What version of XP are you using? Home or Professional?

Are you using passwords with your user account? Are you prompted for a username and password when accessing the share?

No. At the moment it is just me. I am using the same userid and password on all of my systems. I know there is not a type in my Vista PC password since I log on with it.

After I resolve this - providing I do - I'm going to tackle Remote Desktop.

OK - this reference is a good starting point to explain Vista networking:

    http://www.microsoft.com/technet/network/evaluate/vista_fp.mspx#EED

How have you set up file sharing on your Vista system? If you go into the Network and Sharing center in control panel which of these services are enabled:

    File Sharing
    Password protected sharing
    Public folder sharing

It is worth pointing out that if you are sharing via "File Sharing ", you must both enable this feature in the Network and Sharing center and enable sharing in the properties of the folder you wish to share.

You will also have to add File and Print sharing to the exceptions in your Firewall set up.

    Reggie,

After following and re-doing all the necessary steps, I discovered that the Norton Utility that came with the new PC included a firewall. After turning that off, all is well. I don't use Norton for anti-virus or other. Thanks for your help.

Now I need to tackel the Remote Desktop.
