Have been using Firefox Firefox 1.5.0.6 with excellent results. Just recently "upgraded" to .9 with terrible results; then went to 2 with even worse results. Did an uninstall, reinstalled 1.5.0.6 and am doing well. Most of all the extensions were still there, except for the color tabs, which I really like.
Went to reinstall them and the only version I can find is for 2.0, and won't work on the older version. Anyone know where to find the previous version I had ?
    Thank you,
    Rob

I don't have 1.5.x, so I can't test it. I guess you mean Colorful Tabs. Try this link , although I am not sure which is which.
I, always use Mr Tech Local Install to help me make extentions compatible. I have had to work with something very antiquated. Mr.Tech works well with Firefox.

    Hi Rob,

If you're talking about the "Colorful Tabs" extension, you can find it here.

Note: The author says that for Firefox versions earlier than 2.0, to use v 1.4 of the extension.

Thank you for the information. I did find one I had before I updated to a later version of Firefox, but have been unable to get it to install. When I click the button it does nothing. Any thoughts on this problem. The extension is: HashColouredTabs <http://hashcolouredtabs.mozdev.org/>
    Thank you again,
    Rob

    Hi Rob,

Your problem is precisely why I suggest installing the MR Tech Local Install extension before attempting to install any other extensions.

I haven't had much success trying to install extensions online, so I suggest that, instead, you download (right-click on the install button and select "Save Link As" ... make sure the file is .xpi, not .html) those you use, or are interested in using, and store them in a dedicated folder. Then, point Local Install to the folder and install from there.
Note: Because Local Install's interface is rather intimidating, see this post for the only settings I think are necessary for the average user.

Doing it that way, I got HashColouredTabs to install (and work) with FF 2.0.0.2, even with the TabMix Plus extension installed.

These days, I don't even bother looking at compatibility. Unless an extention is very ancient Mr Tech Local Install will make any fairly recent and many not so recent extention compatible. This has been particularly useful since I was carrying more than one version, and they were stealing default from one another. A single click to make the extentions compatible sufficed.

    Ditto to Westside's remarks.

When you use MR Tech Local Install, it's not really necessary to check compatibility. Just check the box circled in the attached screenshot, and you should be home free.

    Jim,
I am not talking about that. I seem to lose compatibility, and it is restored very quickly, Tools|Make all compatible. This has been happening all too often, and Mr.Tech Local Install has kept my sanity.

    Westside ...

I have no idea what you're talking about. I have no Make all compatible selection on my Tools menu (perhaps because I'm running only a single version?).

I thought that I did not have to go to a precise path. since you are so familiar with the extention. The correct path in Firefox2.0.0.2 is Tools|Addons|Tools|Make all compatible. This is a "Tools" within the Tools. Is this what you did not find?
Firefox1.5.0.10 had an icon at the bottom of the Extention popup which accomplished the same thing.

It never occurred to me that you were talking about Local Install's Tools menu. I'm not sure that I've ever even looked at it ... surprising, since I usually check out everything.

FWIW, if you put Local Install's Extensions Manager icon on your toolbar, it opens the same window that Tools > Add-ons does, and reduces the menu's two clicks (three, if you use Tiny Menu, as I do) to a single click.

But how? Where is the icon you are referring to? And, how do you get on the toolbar? I don't have anything referring to Mr Tech in View|Toolbars|Customize

Right-click anywhere on FF's too or menu bars (except in the address and search windows) and select Customize. From the window that opens, drag the "Extensions" icon to the toolbar. The screenshot shows my tool/menubars, with the Extensions icon circled.

I had ended up doing just that. Initially, I thought that you were talking about a MrTech Install icon if you put Local Install's Extensions Manager icon .
