In one of my latest MS updates this little site downloaded and has some interesting offers. Has anyone else gotten this? I like the two games that they offer, but am wondering about the MS Windows Defender. It looks good, but do I really need more protection? I use AdAware, but get tired of having to remember to run it. I sure do miss the older version when it ran on startup. I just need some feedback on it.

    Thanks.

    :)

    Hi Panda,

I've moved your thread to the General Security section.

http://www.spywarewarrior.com/rogue_anti-spyware.htm#trustworthy is a list of anti malware apps. There are links to features/effectiveness.

MS's WD IMO is medicore, a number of comparisons will I think confirm that judgement :)

My favorite, although I don't run it resident, is SuperAntiSpyware.
    http://www.superantispyware.com/ and has a forum.

Then there is AVG's AntiSpyware application - formally Ewido.
    http://www.ewido.net/en/?section=downloads

    Regards - Charles

SPYWAREBLASTER looks good and it looks like I don't have to worry about messing with a 'trial' period. It looks like it will just keep running and updating when I need it to. So does SUPERANTISPYWARE. I hate it when I do a trial and then they want me to buy it. I guess I'm cheap. Always looking for FREEEEEE stuff! I guess I may just try one of these. Should I dump AdAware or run both?

    :)

    Hi Panda,

Might as well keep it for cross-checking purposes.

As an FYI, AAW is beta testing a new version at the moment.

Thanks. Will keep it then. Tks for the update on AAW. I really hated it when they went from the program running on start up to having to do it manually. I really would prefer the program to always be watching for spyware like my Norton watches for all that other stuff.

Thanks, again, for all the help and feedback.

    :)

The three mentioned in your post are amoung the free ones I have. I see no need to dump any of them. However, none of them seem to always catch everything.

More is never enough lately when it comes to security. It's a shame.
