Windows Vista BSOD Constantly

    I'm constantly getting blue screens, no matter what I'm doing or using.

    I have Vista home premium. I've carried out a search of the forums but cannot find where the error reports are saved within Vista, I can only find reference to XP.

    Once I have found the location of the dumps do I then post them here.?

    OK yes I have found it, had to do a search for it...lol

    Do you know what I need to look at to determine the cause of my bsod's ?

    BSOD on Vista can be from a number of reasons such as incompatible AV software. Paste what you've found in the event log.

    As notishwar has noted, the cause can be varied.

    See if there are any errors (red circle with white X + error) being logged by the system when the problem occurs.

    Right clicking on a line and then clicking on Properties will give you a window with more info concerning that line. You'll see in the top section right below the down arrow, a text graphic sysmbol. Clicking on that will place the error info text into your clipboard (memory). Bring up Notepad and right click and paste, that will transfer it to Notepad. You can then paste the text into your next post here.

    Thanks Charles.

    There are no errors with red circle with white X + error. But i will keep looking every time the BSOD happens.

    There are lots of other warnings that are just red circle with white ! in...

    Is there a way to delete all the events & start a fresh ?

    Hi Elvardo,

    FYI: what it looks like just in case I'm not making myself clear. The only example I have is from the Application log - you want to look in the System log.

    To clear the log: tool bar at top of Event Viewer's window > action > clear events.

    Sounds like a hardware issue?
    Make sure you are not overclocking anything on the motherboard, such as CPU, RAM or Graphics card. Make sure any type of M.I.B (Memory Intelligent Booster) such as used on some Gigabyte boards is switched off.
    reseat (and swap out if possible) your memory stick(s). Also reseat the CPU and Graphics card.
    Was the PC upgraded to Vista. If so is all the hardware compatible with Vista?
    Do the BSOD's occur shortly after the PC is switched on, or after it has been running a while?
    Heat (dust) problem?
    Lack of cooling?

    Elvardo, my apologies, in Vista that is the error indicator. So used to looking at XP - that went by me.

    This is one of the little annoyances from MS with Vista, changing things like this for which I don't see the rationale.

    The two most common BSOD events I've noticed in Vista since it's release is a BSOD due to video drivers and a BSOD due to antivirus/antispyware apps.

    A video driver update should take care of the video one - the nVidia drivers that I use work quite well for me in their Vista version.

    As for the antivirus/antispyware apps - you'll have to find out if your program has a Vista version available. FWIW - I go into work every day to find a BSOD from Webroot Spysweeper. I'm too lazy to update it, so I just reboot :)

    Previous issues (from the beta days) involved a lot of network and video issues - so that may also be one of the more common reasons.
