Hopefully this is the right forum for this question.
I have a small network the server is Windows 2003 SBS with AD active and ~10 clients machines all logging into this domain server.
Today I put a standalone Windows 2000 Advance Server box on the network and basically did not configure it to do anything out of the box.
Basically set it up as a standalone server without dhcp, dns or any other services. Then I added it to the domain and it was allowed to join the domain.
I want to use this server to only run one application and maybe share some folders etc. I don't want to set this as a secondary controller or anything like that.
All is fine except when I try to share a folder on the W2K server I don't see my active directory users for the windows 2000 server share.
I was hoping to get a little guidance on this.
    Thanks in advance

    That's a tough one.
Would it be out of the question to upgrade the member server to 2k3?

    Moving to Windows Server

    Still hopefull

Yes it would be difficult as this server is all setup with the applications etc.
Would love to make it work as a simple member server.
    Can it be done?

When you set up the share are you logged on as the local Administrator, or a Domain admin?

If you are logged on to the server as Administrator and logging into the local machine, you may well have problems getting a list of domain users in the share set up.

On the other hand, if you log on as a Domain Admin (default one has the name Administrator too, to add to any confusion) logged on to the domain rather than the local PC, you should get the list of domain users.

    Thanks

Indeed I was overlooking the domain when logging in.
    Now all is good.
I would like to ask another question related to this though.
How can I set permissions on a share within the domain that will allow someone that vpns into a machine on the network, lets say using openvpn, to access this share without having to enter a user name and password.
I added the user to active directory but I still get prompted for a username and password.
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Put the VPN users computer on the Domain. Allow using cached credentials for that computer also.

If the clients (vpn user) computer is using windows XP pro, they would just have to put the user name and password in once, and then click "save password" and it should not prompt it ever again, even after you restart, or atleast its never asked me for it again.
