OK, this one is for WinXP users only.....

You can put a link to WindowsBBS on your Start menu like this:

Clicking it will bring you here.... no more searching for that bookmark/favorite!

To do so, copy these lines in a text file:

Rename the textfile to bbs.reg and double click it to merge it into your registry.

You can also just download this registry file and merge it in your registry (by double clicking on it).

To remove the link, use the code below in the same way as described above:

    Or use this registry file.

    Arie,

I don't know whether this applies to WinXP but in Windows 95 you can place an Internet shortcut on the desktop (or inside another folder) by dragging and dropping the URL icon that's inside the IE browser Address field. You can also open the Windows\Favorites folder and copy an existing favorite.

Couldn't you just copy an Internet Shortcut to the start menu in WinXP? In Win95 I can open the Start Menu folder by right-clicking the Start button and selecting Open. I can then drag an Internet shortcut inside the Start Menu folder and it will appear the next time I click the Start button.

Not nearly in the same way. It would go to the left side of the XP Start menu, at the top....

No, REGULAR START menu, not classic. :)

I also just went into START/RUN/regedit and looked in Each AREA YOU SHOW ABOVE and all is there just as you have listed in each category. Yet it still does not showup. Any other ideas?
I have Start Custom settings to show only 2 shortcuts. This is only on left side of STart, so you picture shows the icon showin up on right side under RUN, so don't think this is reason.

I wonder if it has anything to do with having Norton's Firewall or Norton's Antivirus running? COuld it block results of regedit's changes?

well it seems several things aren't working for me which are for others..ex: have settings to auto login, have cookies to accept, yet it still won't auto log me in here!
..I d/l and clicked the no-link to remove, rebooted, re-tried the link one, rebooted, still not show up. was going to copy onto notepad and save, but wondered something re this:

To do so, copy these lines in a text file:

    quote:
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{2559a1f6-21d7-11d4-bdaf-00c04f60b9f0}]
    @= "WindowsBBS "
    ---
...that being: do I copy all above including "quote: and Windows registry editor version 5.00 "? etc..or ONLY where it begins with
    [HKEY...?
..see why I didn't just copy before but tried the d/l clicking to install? ..well I don't know what else is up..guess I'll just give up..tiks anyway
    .---
another non-working thing: went into signature, and removed and saved my NO SIG pref, yet it still has choice below where I "m typing now for SHOW SIG and it's auto checked and I have to UNCHECK IT each time, which I forget to do, then have to EDIT and REMOVE my sig-ha
    ~~tiny (mounting)frustrations in the XP trials-life~~~oh well....:(

    Yes, otherwise it won't work...

If you don't have a signature, you can leave it checked.....

does it also include the ------ lines near top and bottom of what is to be copied into txt file? what if those lines aren't there, will it still work?

--wonder if it has anything to do w/my settings in Start Menu:
    Rt click taskbar/prop's/start menu/start menu(NON classic)/CUSTOMIZE/General tab:
1)Programs->no. in start menu (i have set to "0 ")
    2)/Advanced tab:
    Start menu Items
Maybe it's something I have chosen in here that you don't? (or vise-versa)
    ---
after reply to this, guess should just stop asking, stop trying, and just forget this thing-haha
    tks for sticking w/me anyway
    tks for info re sig

"... no more searching for bookmark/favorites." It has never been necessary for me to search as W9X enables a desktop shortcut to go directly to a site as well as going online with the ISP at the same time.

The same shortcut on XP's desktop opens the internet page but fails to make an ISP connection although there are verifiable attempts. Doesn't make sense unless there are security considerations or maybe ANOTHER PATCH down the road.

Link to WindowsBBS from Start Menu

The easy way to place a shortcut to your StartMenu:

To place a shortcut link to your Win XP Classic Start Menu:

First go to the website (www.WindowsBBS.com), right click on an empty spot and select "Create a shortcutâ€

Close your web browser, copy the shortcut you just created to a floppy disk (Drive A:)

Click on Start>Settings>Taskbar and Start Menu
Select the StartMenu Tab> Customize>Add>Browse to Drive A:
Select the Shortcut file and click OK> Next
Select the folder in which to place the shortcut (Start Menu> Programs) > Next
    Type a name for the shortcut> Finish>OK

Just when you thought this thread was dead I come along.

This is for those crusty old dogs like me who are resistant to change, and so insist on using the Classic Start Menu.

I created a folder at the top of my Start Menu, called it Tech Sites, went to my Favorites folder, grapped a copy of the Windows BBS internet shortcut, copied it to my Tech Site folder and walla, no more searching through my favorites. Also gives me a place a stick the Windows XP Support Center shortcut so its easy to find when needed.

    :D

Hey... neat, though, I had to take a second look to see it in the right column. I guess that I am used to new things poping up in the left column. I am running XP Pro and used cut and paste to a text file. Worked Fine.
