I've searched the forums and haven't found anything similar to what I'm experiencing. I got new office furniture at work which required me to unplug everything and move it. First, I lost all my red colors and discovered after about half a day whining and resetting my monitor that after unplugging the monitor from the desktop, 2 of the pins were bent. Ok, problem solved. HOWEVER, once I got my color back, something weird happened. In IE7, I get old (think early web days) links and looks. Any background images do not show up. In Outlook 2003, I can't change the color on my font - ever. It works fine in MS Word (I copied and checked some items) but not Outlook. Additionally, I can select colors to change but the display never shows it. My husband says he receives my emails and signatures in color. I've even print screened him an image from my pc showing the issue. He can't figure it out. I've checked all my settings and defaulted them, rechecked them. Even went as far as to copy ALL of my settings down from home. Nothing works. I'm using XP Home. About the only thing I haven't done is to reinstall IE7. I'm at my wits end. It's really very annoying.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Try another monitor for a test. I suspect some permanent damage due to the bent pins. They may have shorted the video output stage of your computer and damaged the card or MOBO permanently. :(

If you're lucky, the damage may only be to the video cable plug. That can be replaced but you'll have to get a bench tech to do it.

But I see color in the windows, just not on fonts and the background images are gone ONLY in OUtlook and IE. Wouldn't this indicate a browser or other setting and not the plug?

Have you tried a different monitor?

Have you tried reloading the video drivers?

Have you verified that you have the correct monitor selected?

Have you checked in Device manager to see if your display adapter is listed correctly?

Right click the Desktop and select Properties > Settings > and verify that you are set for 32 bit color.

    Also please see.

Yes, did all that. Everything is as its supposed to be.
Even uninstalled IE7 - and now, as I type this, using IE6, my font is HUGE and still having the same issues with font colors in Outlook and no background images in Explorer.

    ????

In Control Panel -> Internet Options there are settings for colour and fonts at the bottom of the first (General) tab.

LOL.... that was the least of my worries. I got that fixed no problem. Even reinstalled IE7.

STILL having the issue with the backgrounds and such. Wish there was a way to show you what I see.

 this is really annoying not being able to change colors and look at images.

There is - either post an image on somewhere like Photobucket and then post the URL here or become a Contributing Member (preferred :)) when you can post jpegs, etc with your posts.

    Here are 4 images:

This is the Windows BBS view. Obviously I don't see what I should.

    http://www.statewiderlty.com/test/image2.jpg
This is the Microsoft website. Notice the difference in how you see it on your pc?

    http://www.statewiderlty.com/test/image3.jpg
This is our website: http://www.statewiderlty.com. Click on my image that *I* see, then click how you see it. Background gone.

    http://www.statewiderlty.com/test/image4.jpg
This is my email window. Read the sample email and you'll see. No color red.

    *SIGH*
I'm pulling my hair out here. Stupid pc.

I see your problem clearly, but as to a solution I am at a total loss. It would appear that it is confined to web pages as your images show parts of the Windows screen which appear to be perfectly normal.

I have not seen anything like this before - I would consider a System Restore to a point prior to the new furniture and see if that resolves the problem.

Maybe someone else will have other ideas.

Ok. So how do i do that (because I've only ever had to do a total reinstall of the entire system after a virus crash)? I am fairly knowledgable with pc's but I don't want to mess anything up.

Also, when I do this - what is going to be affected? Any new programs I've installed? New data, documents, etc?

    Did you try accessibility options?

Did you go under Tools, Internet Options, General Tab Accessibility and make sure that none of those are checked?

Yes. Like I said earlier, I checked all my current settings in all my areas against my home pc (which works fine) and they are the same. I even uninstalled IE7 and reinstalled it. Nothing is different anywhere, except the color issue.

Itres (Welcome to the Board :)) makes a good point - worth checking.

Use System Restore to Undo Changes if Problems Occur
but you will lose any programs that were installed after the point to which you restore the computer. In any case you should have a full back up of your data regardless of whether or not you run a System Restore.

Thanks! I've got to figure out how to do that since i dont have a cd r/w here on this pc. This one was the first new pc we got. LOL!

Good to know it wont mess up any personal stuff. I can move the zipped and rar files I've downloaded thus far.

Next question - What if THAT doesn't work???

FWIW, when I tag the top box in Tools > Internet Options > Accessibility I get the exact same symptoms as you have. That's the box labeled "Ignore colors specified on web pages." I get the white background on web pages. It also affects Outlook Express in that you can't have colored text. I know you said you checked that but perhaps a revisit is justified. If it isn't checked, check it and apply then uncheck it and apply, just to humor us. Do that with all three boxes there if you please. Can't hurt.

Ok - did the check, uncheck, recheck, uncheck, recheck, and its currently unchecked. Hit ok and apply all times. no changes.

Then..... *grumble* attempted.system.restore.15.times. NO LIE. Went back every freaking day it had an available system checkpoint to January 1st. It would NOT RESTORE. It kept telling me it was unable to restore - no changes have been made. *sigh*

Now I'm REALLY mad and upset.

Don't you have another monitor available for a test substitute?
