    Hello All -

Firstly, I am using OE6. Occassionally I get emails from a friend with the .zmc file extension (ZoneAlarm Mailsafe Renamed .eml file).

In the past, I have been able to rename a few of these back to the .eml extension and been able to see them. Lately, however, I haven't been able to accomplish that and open the email.

I'm sure it is something really simple that I'm doing wrong and I feel like an idiot. Any ideas?

As always, any and all help will be greatly appreciated. :) TIA

Would email friend asking what extension is. Possibly it's not .eml?

ZA will rename other files to .eml that they feel are a threat. It is not just .zmc. Saw this once before but don't remember where it was.

In this instance, and as near as I can figure, these e-mails with the .zmc extension began as a regular, run-of-the-mill e-mail (.eml) and were forwarded by someone using ZoneAlarm Mailsafe. The extension was changed from .eml to .zmc by ZA Mailsafe, for whatever reason, by default(?) when sent. That's just a guess on my part, however. I may be wrong and, gawd knows, I've been wrong before.

According to FILExt, these e-mails started out with a .eml extension and were changed by ZA Mailsafe when sent - or forwarded.

Does that make any sense to you? I'm  and don't have a clue. :( I will ask my friend if he is using ZA Mailsafe, and if he ISN'T, I'll try to find out how he is reading these things.

I'll do a little more research and post back. Thanks for your posts, guys. :)

    Update

My friend did tell me that is using Zone Alarm. Now all we have to do is figure out how ZA Mailsafe is changing the extension and why. Maybe how to disable it, too.

Now you know all that I know. Thanks for the posts. :)
