Lately whenever I click on the START botton then "Help & Support" it is taking longer and longer for the Help & Support to open. I just timed it and it took 75 seconds to open. I use this to go to System Restore to make a restore point when I download anything or make any add & remove changes.

It never used to take this long. It seems to me that the problem started right around the time I installed IE 7.

Anyone have any ideas why this is now taking so long.

    I am running XP Pro SP2 & IE 7

I rarely use Help & Support, but checking it took 53 secs to open on my computer. Why? No idea :)
    Why?

Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore

or - when at System Restore via that route Right Click on System Restore under System Tools > Send To > Desktop as shortcut

or SysRestorePoint from Doug Knox which I use.

Pete, I went the route you suggested and I Right Clicked on System Restore under System Tools, the only thing that happens is that I get a Quick flash of the whole column listing all the Programs and nothing happens. I even tried dragging it to the Desktop both with Right & Left clicks and nothing happens.

I installed the System Restore utility you suggested from Doug Knox--but I,m not wild about it because I can't TYPE in why I am creating the Restore Point.

    Any other ideas?

Right click on the Desktop > New > Shortcut and use this line for the location (target) of the item ....

    %SystemRoot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe

Thanks Pete, that did the trick and the System Restore now opens faster when accessing it from my desktop.

One more question and I won't bother you for the rest of today.

How do I remove the Doug Knox utility if I decide to and will it hurt to leave it?

    Thanks again,
    Paul

The System Restore Utility from Doug Knox is not installed - it is a standalone .exe file which is run when the desktop icon is clicked. Just delete the file from the location to which you downloaded it.
