I just got windows vista a few days ago. i downloaded firefox and went to a website and it asked me to install adobe flash player plugin. I clicked to install it and during ith instalation it had an error. Now when i attempt to open firefox a message comes up saying something to the effect of "a program has not finished instalation. firefox will now close to finish instalation. " I have also found that when i attempt to download other plugins or update files the same thing appears. Ive tried restarting my computer but i dont know what else to do. It seems to me that my system thinks it is still installing the file but im not sure how to correct it. Somebody please help me.

Welcome to the Forum, Mike 17!

    Mike,

Look in your C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox folder for this file: xpicleanup.dat If this file exists, then delete it.

Does this help? If not, then do this:

Make a backup copy of your plugins folder
    Uninstall Firefox, using Add/Remove
Next: delete the C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox folder

    REBOOT your PC

    Now reinstall Firefox,
Copy the backup of the plugins folder and paste it in the C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox folder
Answer YES when prompted to replace the existing plugins folder.

Let us know if this corrected your problem.

Did you use the http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/knowledgebase/index.cfm?id=tn_14157 , as suggested in my first post above?
